    ...'"pulling the plug."

It will be interesting to see what a North American spec BYD passenger car looks like.

About time, but I disagree with Ellen on the robotaxi, not sure we’ll get there in his lifetime

Seems to me that the CEO of a car company doesn't want to run a car company anymore. I'm extremely skeptical about the viability of humanoid robots and driverless cabs as the company's future. They're betting the company on questionable future tech that may never work.

Easy, the earlier generation of robots using ‘bitcoins.’ Musk claims the robots will give us everything we could want.

The Elon robot will get you, @bwilson4web.

The robotaxi is huge. Uber and Lyft will no longer need drivers. The riders will no longer have to tip. It will cut costs for both Uber and Lyft and for riders by half.

But then, will there be any jobs in ten years from now with the AI? The doomsday clock is now at 85 seconds before midnight.

The ‘Doomsday Clock’ is now 85 seconds to midnight—the closest it’s ever been. What scientists say this means for humanity and how the time is determined.

"He announced the end of production of two models – the Model S and Model X, among the company’s most expensive models, on a Wednesday earnings call. Instead, the company will use that factory space to build humanoid robots instead."

Guess the robot could help passengers get into the car, but the Cybercab won't have room for it.

A non-humanoid robot would be better for such endeavors. The robot dogs would need lower head space.

The announcement was made after the markets closed. The shares are up sharply after the announcement.

Good thing Bob isn't cash heavy where he could have shorted Tesla.

    Who wouldn't?
A fully functional humanoid robot would create the first 100 trillion dollar company.
Throw in commercial use, residential use, and even pets. hmm....military......you think drones have changed warfare? wait until an army of remote FPV operated robots hit the dirt. Dangerous jobs? Confined spaces? How about a handyman robot for the house who knows how to do everything? How about a companion or pet that can actually monitor it's caretaker and call for help if needed?
and what about the people that want a "companion" who is programmed to their taste?

Why do people think tesla was a car company. It's a technology company, not a car company.

Tesla beat very low expectations. Model X never was profitable. Model S is a tiny proportion of sales. My guess is discontinuing them may make tesla more profitable. Cybertruck looks like a losing propositon too. That leaves most sales which are the model 3/Y. A lower cost crossover, and a more luxurious version of the model 3 would likely help, as would a cooperative ford/tesla electric Truck built on the architecture of the current one, but with quite different body.

robotaxis probably will be a good future profit center.

Humanoid robots? I doubt these will sell well for at least the next decade. A robot dog that could do work around the house, that would be a winner ;-)
