Current one is trash. Bought a $29 junkyard one to try but screen looks worst. I'm wondering if there is an afforable cheap fix or if there is a delete option? All I can think of that's a needed function is the climate controls. Nav and bt is covered by my android unit. I saw a yt some guy had climiate controls working on an android unit but he didnt show how he did it. I also wonder if the mfd serves any other function that is needed for operation. I dont want to drop $200-$300 on a rebuild that will prob fail.

You said the first one is “trash”. What is actually broken? The box under the driver seat is navigation, I can confirm completely unplugging it is perfectly fine. When you press any buttons on the right side of the screen, it gives you a basic message that Nav isn’t available. Looks way better than the ugly lines though.

You still control climate by the MFD, you just add a small resistor between two wires.

See around 7:06. I didn’t splice. I just shoved both ends into the back of the harness and taped it up,

My climate control works. The MFD screen is dimm can barely see it only at night. Hmm, I wonder if a basic MFD will work with the touring model? There is a basic one at the junkyard if it's good.

My droid unit had the resistor already installed I can use the controls on the MFD. Touch works. I just cant see the screem its so dim and its not the brightness setting. The screen is worn out.

Got it. So this will depend on your comfort with tearing electronics apart. But the digitizer replacement screen is cheap - like under $20 on eBay, probably Amazont too.

i’m “novice plus” in my electronics. I can hook most stuff up and read schematics. I can just barely solder, but nothing like a circuit board.

I did tear down my whole MFD and although I was worried, it still worked. So I know it’s doable without a a lot of know how. You just have to take LOTS of pictures to ensure you route the wires back and don’t miss any screws.
There were literally points where I missed on and had to take 15 more minutes to take stuff apart again to put something back. But this is basically what I followed too for another reason. It’s all screws/plug and play stuff. My biggest problem was forgetting how small wires were roited.
