2012 Prius C, 335k miles: While smooth highway driving, I got a message on the display "Check Hybrid System Stop The Vehicle In A Safe Place Immediately". Immediately the cruise control disconnected. Yellow exclamation point indicator along with traction control icon illuminate steady. While driving at that moment, I did a code scan, it showed stored code u0140 Lost communication with body control module. Otherwise, dring performance was the same as before and remains so. Other ill symptoms include loss of power door locks, rear hatch will not open, power window switch now requires two button presses to lift window, interior dome light non functional, and car will not stay running in park. The U0140 code is the only code present, and it comes back after clearing the error codes. I suspect the body module has failed. What would you do?

Or a communication network to the body module has failed. The reason for lack of communication to the body module has to be diagnosed.

I would follow the troubleshooting steps for U0140 in the repair manual.

Some scan tools will show not just a trouble code, but which ECU reported the code. There may be more than one ECU in the car that communicates with the body module (depending on the car's trim and options), and can report U0140 if it is unable to. Knowing which ECU(s) can't talk to the body module can be useful in troubleshooting.
