Been doing all the regular maintenance, but as I hit 75K, I'm seeing some large items I should jump on. Wanted to run this past the group to see if I'm missing anything. I also have a clarifying question.

Cleaning the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system including: EGR Valve, EGR Cooler, EGR Pipe, and Intake Manifold

Transaxle Drain and Fill (assume transmission service and transaxle serve are the same/interchangeable terms?)

Have other fluids (brakes, etc) inspected.

Hold off to 100K - Coolant service

Hold off to 120K - Spark Plugs

    TYIA!

FYI: for the Prius; this is a single assembly that takes ~3.8L of Toyota WS fluid. Most large SUV and 4x4 pickup trucks, these are separate assemblies, so in this instance they are the same.

Have other fluids (brakes, etc) inspected. I would flush-out the entire brake system with new DOT3 fluid. It's been there for 10 years and picked up a lot of contaminates. I believe the Canadian OEM manual states 3 years or 36K miles; which aligns with other OEM manufacturers brake fluid replacement intervals. Toyota's kinda strange, since they don't have an interval.

I have no opinions on the EGR clean-out, though I have heard that they do clog-up. If you do regular oil changes per OEM intervals and use quality engine oil; it shouldn't be that bad - my opinion.....

    Good Luck....

For Canadian 2014 model year Prius Toyota Canada says, in the Owner's Manual Supplement Booklet, to change the brake fluid every 48k kilometers (roughly 30k miles) or tri-yearly, whichever comes first. Note, this is also the Toyota USA's interval for a more in-depth brake inspection, per the Toyota USA publication Warranty and Maintenance Booklet.

FWIW, my 2010 (Canadian) documentation makes no mention of brake fluid change; seems like a change in policy happened somewhere between 2010 and 2014.

As of 2016 Prius model year, Toyota Canada has NO maintenance info in the paper documentation (progress...), it's all online. Just checked, and yup, still the same, either by kms or months:

Regarding EGR, a few years back, in light of reports here, my own experience, and some "horse sense", I started advocating a maximum 50k mile interval. Funny, when I ask Google's AI if and when to clean to clean, it says 50k as well. :)

See attached excerpt from aforementioned Toyota Canada's Owner's Manual Supplement. It's a lovely, table format explanation, in a couple pages summarizes in easy to read format, what the US Warranty and Maintenance booklet does, in clunky/myopic, event-by-event format, in 20~30 pages. Unfortunately the Canadian format lasted only till the advent of 4th gen, where it all went online, and in event-by-event format, similar to the States.

Addendum: Also attached, the 3rd gen Prius US schedule, in a spreadsheet, extrapolated to 24 years or 240k miles. PDF version attached as well.

Do take a look at the maintenance related links in my signature. (on a phone turn it landscape to see signatures)

So; is that buried in the actual brake inspection procedure; because there's no interval in the basic maintenance service check list book? Not even in my 2021 manual; unless I somehow missed it. That's usually outline in other OEM maintenance interval manuals. Somewhere between the 30K - 40K service interval.

Was that screen shot from one of those a 3nd party maintenance apps (ie. Autozone, Pepboys, Napa automotive parts)?

I downloaded the 2021 Prius Warranty and Maintenance Booklet, from Toyota USA. Here's the typical page:

And the 30k miles or 36 months page. Note the absence of "Visual inspect..." and additional item in "Inspect the following":

Yep; gotta fish my book out of my car and see what footnote #4 states. On other cars OEM manual; brake fluid changes would have a square next to it, in the upper replacement section.

FWIW: footnote #4 - measure brake pad thickness and disk run-out.

So NO official brake fluid change or flush-out interval under Toyota's official published maintenance schedule in the lower 48....

I would do coolant and brake fluid as priority ahead of transaxle if cost is the concern. The first two are factors in head gasket and brake booster failures, problems that will ruin your day/month/finances.

@rjparker is recommending the coolant change based on time NOT mileage.
You can do a litmus and glycol test on your current coolant to see if you can wait to change it. You do dip into the freeze zone a few days or weeks in the year - certainly worth looking into. FWIW; I would change both engine & inverter coolant at the same time - easier to track maintenance that way. I believe the inverter coolant can go 150K miles; but the coolant itself has the same 10-year time limitation.
I would also look into installing a P10 or equivalent dash monitor to monitor ECT. It's a small engine attached to a large heavy car, so engine running hot is a concern in the summer months.
