What is this sound? I only hear it occasionally. It comes from the driver's side. It happens while driving and while in park. It will stop once I shut the car off

There are several sounds that can fit that description. If you can post a recording, that helps, or you can search for other similar threads where other people posted recordings, and notice which of those sound like yours.

What is the sound that OP is not going to describe? Lol... I think its a trick question!

If a car makes a sound and the person who is hearing the sound doesn't describe what the sound actually sounds like to people on PriusChat, does the car really make a sound?

Well, the OP described when it happens, which I guess is the easier part to put in words, without trying to do the "well, it's kind of screechy, with a little bit of whong-ong-ong-ong, only not as buzzy as that" kind of thing.

If there were only one gen 2 Prius sound that could happen at the times described, that might be enough to ID it.

Trouble is, there's more than one. So posting a recording is more helpful, or listening to the recordings from other people's older threads to pick out which one it sounds like.

Now this is what I'm looking for... Lol... Not like it helps that much, but is always kind of fun. Way better than when they post a video and you can't hear it at all.

I suspect the OP (Jotowers) intended to post a link to his video, but then, because he is a new user with less than 5 posts, found he couldn't.

So, OP, make 5 comments on some other threads, then come back and post your link.

Also note, that with less than 5 posts, each of your new post have to wait for a moderator to approve them. Another reason to get you post count up to over 5.

If there is a continuous sound coming from the driver's side, I would have to guess it's a bad 3 way valve. This sound would be described by many as a stuck cd trying to eject over and over and over.

... or, if you're old enough, like a broken floppy disk drive unable to find the track it is seeking.

Yes that's exactly what it sounds like! It only comes on occasionally and no check engine light yet. Is this something I need to address immediately?

Looks like you made more than 5 comments and they're approved so your free to post links... I watched your Google Photos video but it wasn't a noise I could hear. Can you describe the noise?

This failure should produce a check engine light, as the emissions system is affected. This is not anything that's an emergency, your car will drive fine. You might have an issue of not getting HEAT when you want it, but if you're in Fresno CA, it probably wouldn't be an issue.

You should confirm the failure, it should produce code P1121

Eventually. It can make noise for a long time before that happens.

yes that is correct, that sound is not necessarily a failure yet. It's just getting there.......

You can see this recent post for the reason the condition that produces a floppy-disk hunting sound is a different failure that doesn't match the detection condition for P1121. You won't see P1121 unless the valve eventually also fails in the way P1121 detects.

If you can stand there and listen to the hunting failure with your own ears, it isn't necessary to wait for any code to tell you what you're hearing.
