A question on jdm engines. All ad's I see do not give a specific year.

Yet for reliability, that is crucial info.can I spec 2015?

I'm in Fort Worth and am in desperate need of an engine swap on my 2012 prius III. When I saw you're in Dallas my heart jumped. Would you mind telling me who your mechanic was and where you sourced the engine? Thank you so much!

(Sorry if double posting) Could you tell me who your mechanic was and where you sourced your engine? I'm in desperate need of a swap for the exact same issue on my 2012 prius III out in Fort Worth. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much for all this info! Recently discovered a seized engine in 2012 V and JDM engine certainly seems the way to go.

Did you replace with a JDM or not at all?

17735299121068625468833308063488.jpg I replaced my blown headgasket and hydrolocked engine ( piston rod went completely through the engine block ) on my 2010 Prius back the spring 2021 at 273000 miles with a JDM engine at about 39000 miles and right now my car has 426634 miles on it. It costed less than $3000 total to buy and replace the engine and I never need to add any oil between oil changes to this very day. Well worth the money versus spending even more money fixing an already damaged engine. Shaken in Japan requires mandatory inspections after 3 years of age and can cost upto $1500 per year to inspect your vehicle and they will fail your car for trivial stuff such as worn interior or torn seat or minor body damages. After 7 years of age a yearly inspection is required and at $1500 per year that literally forces the Japanese to retire their cars. I have a high-school friend who is an American English teacher there and said your old car literally becomes unaffordable to own once it is past 7 years old and he has been forced by financial reasons to sell his older than 7 year old good running vehicles because of this. Plus the average Japanese vehicle is only driven about 5000 miles per year so 7 x 5000 is just 35,000 miles which the average American vehicle hits by its 3rd year or even earlier.

More than 150,000 miles on a $3k total JDM engine that still burns no oil is a win in anybody's book.

A shop here has been doing hundreds of them for years with similar results. The Japanese bought the gen3 v/alpha/+ with those engines until 2021.

Funny how the Japanese are forced by their Government to junk perfectly good running vehicles once they hit 7 years of age is a win for USA Prius owners. My friend ended up getting rid of his perfectly good running Japanese
My Friend had a just over 7 year old Rav4 which ran great and he liked driving it but it got flagged by Shaken for having a small dented and scratched spot on his passenger rocker panel (drivers side here in the USA) and the repair bill estimate was about $1500 dollars USD plus the cost of continuing yearly inspection being required every year being it was older than seven years old forced him to get rid of his Toyota Rav4. Japan has ridiculously strict auto inspection program which basically makes owing an older vehicle extremely costly by requiring you to fix what ever the inspection flags as a problem no matter how trivial it is. Their loss is a win for USA customers because the JDM engines tend to be very low mileage well maintained good running engines because Japan financially forces people to sell their older good running low mileage vehicles or they have to pay lots of money to fix them to pass only to be forced to pay another $1500 the next year to the nit picking inspectors
