Which dash cam do you have and can I use any ODB for parking mode? Also, my AC is no longer blowing

@Freeze Time How would your drive cams know when to go into parking mode and how are you going to recharge those batteries? Doesn't that unit have an internal battery that's good for 24-48 hours, for parking mode - draw off the main battery line to power-up, when it senses something?
Have you read how your unit is suppose to operate?
If you tie both power wires together, every time you switch power packs, your likely to erase all previous setting. like replacing the battery on your car.

    YMMV

No. They generally use super capacitors

Here is the manual in case YOU want to read it: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2287/2433/files/ROVE_R2-4K-DUAL_User_Manual_Updated_JAN-2025.pdf

When power is lost, super capacitor ensures unit shuts down gracefully.

Question is, what are the different ways parking mode can work?

Usually there is a hardwire kit that has an accessory feed as well as an always-on feed.
When accessory drops, as in the car is turned off, it goes into parking mode.
Parking mode includes low energy consumption options, like low bitrate and time lapse recording.

If you just plugged in a power bank after you stopped, how long would it last when recording in its normal (non-parking) configuration? I guess you could figure it out knowing the current draw of the unit and capacity of the power bank. It's probably not going to be overnight.

I don't know, yet, lol, if there are ways, other than having two power feeds, ACC and Always On, to kick off parking mode, to stretch out the battery. GPS? Some logic that senses if image is static? Even if so, it'd be unit dependent.

    Nothing's easy is my motto.

I just tested my Viofo VS1 after watching the video below.
It does indeed go into parking mode after 5 minutes of "quiet".
As a test, I set it to low bit rate recording-the files went down from 192.5 MB/min to 51.2 MB/min, and includes audio.
I have no idea of energy usage. Time lapse and motion/g-force options are also available.
I have no idea if the Rove does this, but I was encouraged that mine did.

Can I use an external battery pack for parking mode ? : VIOFO Support Center

Not planning to buy one or doing that guys' homework for him. I know mine is working properly, and went out to "rock" the car one night to test it's night vision and trip level. If he can't test his install and can't or don't want to check if it's properly wired - then he going to think the unit isn't working properly or it's defective; just because of improper wiring.

    See thread #30, last sentence.

Always-on will draw a lot more power than park-mode and probably why some people's battery are dying.

    Could very well be.

I'm thinking I'd like low bit rate recording because you won't miss anything and it has audio, but who knows the energy penalty compared to motion detection or time lapse. I'm probably not going to do parking mode other than experimentally.

I'm just thinking about where the original poster is now, with a portable power bank, and wondering if mine could possibly work with one.

Anyway, it works for me-5 minutes of "quiet" turn it on. I haven't seen a way to turn normal recording back on though, other than power cycling, lol. (This is on the counter, not in the car.)
