In March 2019 I paid $1,200 for Autopilot and in October 2019, $6,000 for Full Self Driving. But in April 2019, Autopilot handled a medical incident and saved me and my family. I would be happy to participate in a class action against those who forced this name change so I could call them “Butt hole <name> Autopilot/FSD.” For now, I’ll play “A Boy Named Sue” and “Serve Somebody.” … Bob Wilson
Most impressive things noted on one of several (Juniper) model Y videos out is that it's quieter, lighter, drag CD of only 0.22 & a personal favorite, when the car detects it has crashed / slid / ends up in enough water, all the windows immediately roll down & trunk pops open before any electronics can die
In 2019, they were the same code base then Tesla changed to an AI base for FSD. That split some features and slowed a couple of years of FSD learning AI coding. But today, FSD is significantly better than Autopilot. For example, parking lot summon. I suspect Autopilot is now just part of the core code base. FSD can probably call those API interfaces as needed for basics like emergency braking, lane keeping, and turns. Bob Wilson
