According to your profile; yours is a gen3 - slightly different setup and know head gasket issues.

If your car is indeed a gen3; please start a new thread in the gen3 forum. You problem may be a bit more severe.

    Good Luck...

I just bought a gen 4 :) I did start a new thread as well. Will update once I get gaskets and clean the EGR valve.

Setup an account on Toyota.com. If you enter that VIN; you'll be able to see what the dealerships has done to the car and read their reports.

    Good Luck.....

The person I refereed to in post #18 was well north of 250K+ miles; the gen4 EGR doesn't clog up like the gen3 with proper maintenance. His car threw a code and according to this thread and person, no codes was thrown; So I would have to question the mechanic's aptitude and test equipment they used. At a minimum, a pending P0300 should've been triggered; when testing in the sweet spot; while it was happening. IMHO and experience. This issue wasn't intermittent and was repeatable at low rpms; it shouldn't have taken 2 years to nail down - IMHO.....
