I'm looking for a safe hybrid battery for a 2011 Toyota Prius. I’ve read about Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) vs. sodium-ion cell batteries. Do you have any recommendations/experience? Is a sodium-ion cell battery a good option for the Prius? Sodium Ion is a Great choice. Mine have worked flawlessly during heat and humidity and cold. Very stable and a great upgrade from the nimh pack.
I am curious how many miles you have on the car? Does it have the original hybrid battery? Did you get the P0A80 trouble code?
I have 167k miles on the car. Yes, I got the P0A80 code. I’m on the second battery (the second battery was replaced by toyota dealership about 4-5 years ago). However, I ran the Dr. Prius lifetime test today and got 56%. I’ll run the Dr. Prius lifetime test a couple more times before I make the decision.
What you are experiencing is very unusual. I assume the dealership put in a new hybrid battery when they replaced it. These batteries should last at least 10 years. Can you please upload a few Dr Prius screenshots showing the data when you are driving the car during high current (amps) flow into and out of the battery. Do any of the 14 battery blocks ever show as a negative voltage?
