or...... could Toyota simply ended up very very lucky that Biden lost? Slowing down free money to EV manufacturers? Causing Toyota to not be the last place losers of ev foot dragers?

OR … Since … this big stupid fvcking issue is at hand, there must be NO need for EV development and/or rebate $$$ for people buying EVs. Because the leader-in-charge is a CONVICTED FRAUD … a 34Xs CONVICTED FELON … a CONVICTED RAPIST … and a CRIMINAL GRIFTER … who gets nothing from ANYTHING GREEN, including EV Production.

Funny how the government axing support for EVs and clean cars could lead to a company reducing investment into those products. In other major markets, GM is speeding up electrification(China) and only sells EVs(Europe).

Meanwhile, Toyota can boast about huge percentage increases in EV sales because they were selling such little numbers to begin with.

 

Wasn't that many years ago Toyota was bragging about coming up with a NEW platform - other than the e-tgna due to its more expensive production cost that supports both batteries & their internal COMBUSTION engines.

They're making so much money on ICE trucks they would rather build those.

 

What’s funny is they aren’t.

automakers figured out they could sell fewer cars at higher prices forgetting that by doing so you get a feedback loop of fewer and fewer sales.

EVs have gone up in price exponentially this year and fewer are available for sale, meanwhile everything else is selling in smaller and smaller numbers (like a recession)

Turns out the number of us consumers who are willing to pay $30,000+ is finite and shrinking

 

Not sure I’m a gurus but I did trade-in my 2017 Prius Prime for a 2019 Model 3:

• TSS-P insulted my engineering
  • Autopilot crash avoided FIRST month
  • ~93% Self Driving
• 56 MPG versus about ~130 MPGe Model 3
  • ~$7.50/100 miles vs ~$2.50/100 EV miles (pre solar roof)
• 182,000 miles Model 3 today vs 175,000 miles with 2003 Prius

There are credible reports that Toyota EVs are competitive in China. My situation does not make new EVs attractive over a ‘beater’ Model 3 to backup the one I already own and operate.

Toyota now ranks among the top 5 EV sellers in the US

Toyota took fourth place by selling 88 more EVs than Cadillac.
Chevy sold about 6400 more than Toyota.
Include Lexus, and Toyota sold less than half the EVs GM sold in this year.

Electrified figures include hybrids without plugs, which aren't a measure EV performance.

 

OR perhaps Toyota has an engineering lead developing electrified vehicles. How could YOU have not known that, or do you just like to stir up controversy?

 

Did Toyota know Trump was going to get re-elected, cancel EV incentives, and roll back fuel economy and emission standards? Because that major market disruption is why Toyota's slow adoption of EVs looks like foresight today. GM, Ford, and others scaling back EVs in North America doesn't happen without that major change to the market.

 

or ...... color you a Toyota fanboy. Nothing wrong with that. But every manufacturer has its wins & it's ridiculous losses. Maybe consider for example;

The Toyota Mirai stands out as the most disastrous regarding Toyo sales—only 210 units moved in 2025, down nearly 58% from the year. It's been the brand's worst seller for years, hampered by scarce hydrogen stations, a high price over $50,000, and a sedan body style that's fallen out of favor. Toyota's crystal ball somehow said hydrogen was going to take off, despite huge cost for the fuel!

How much perfectly good cash did Toyota toss down the toilet on that abortion? It got to the point toyo was selling for $15,000 on lease returns - or less - with free hydrogen fuel cards for YEARS, presuming you could find a station, presuming the station would be working at all, presuming the hydrogen wasn't still repressurizing. Historically, the 1958 Toyo Crown was also a total flop in the U.S. too—slow, overheating, and withdrawn by 1961—but the Mirai's ongoing struggle with infrastructure makes it the bigger commercial disaster.
