knowing his group of expensive shysters would have told him to just keep answering, "5th-5th-5th", they'd then have to tell him it's a gamble for him to NOT answer questions - wherein if he was convicted of contempt - one might suppose Foucheez could then say, "okay I'll answer". And so what if he says, "yeah I took the money - yeah I talked out of both sides of my face - yeah I did lots of junk like grabbing a million bucks in prize money, so what - it's all pardoned under the 5th anyway" . Which means all he's protecting is his belief in his own image - possibly also in the eyes of his fans as well.

 

Was Thomas Moore enthralled with being written about and interviewed, feeding the public information he knew to be false or misleading, and work behind the scenes for policy that hurt a lot of people?

The man was surely relied upon by people who supported a range of government policies about lockdowns, vaccination mandates and weren't too tied to the Nuremberg Code. The social fear of the period was largely caused by him, but not only by him.

Rather than stand for truth as a value in itself, he hedged and misrepresented the efficacy and safety of medical therapies for effect in trying to get vaccination rates higher. That's not a balance of professional scientific and legal duties, but a deviation from them. The six feet of separation and cotton masks were nonsense that became a matter of social contagion.

The issue about outsourcing research to China because it was restricted in the US is one on which he has given prior testimony. If his NIAID provided funding for research that requires a facility with the most measures to prevent a viral escape, but farmed it out to the CCP, who would be far less likely to observe those expensive standards, he may owe some answers he has not yet given.
