It seems impossible right now to find a 2007 Prius. So I was looking at a 2002 with 118000 miles on it for $9500. Can someone please tell me if this is an OK deal, and if there is anything to look out for with this model year. The car looks like new inside and out and seems to run very well. The gas mileage and dependiblity on this car has to be better than my wife 1996 5.2 Jeep Grand Cherokee. lol !!!

I would never buy a car with that many miles on it, especially in that short a time... but that's just me. Also, if you want a used Prius, you probably want to at least move into the 2004 or newer range. But I'm not the expert in these here parts.... I'm sure others will have better and more specific advice.

Go to kbb.com (Kelley Blue Book) to find out what the price would be for that car to see if it's an OK deal.

The Classic Prius is still running strong.

Prices seem to fluctuate a lot, but that price is in the neighborhood as far as current sentiment goes, and perhaps a bit better.

Don't be concerned at all about the mileage. Follow the same rules as you would with buying any used car, look at the exterior and interior, look at how the car was maintained, see if it drives well.

As for your question as to whether or not there is something to look out for with this model year, there is one bulletin about having Toyota clean the battery terminals. This only needs to be done once, and if the previous owner has been doing oil changes, etc., at the dealership, this would have been done.

I'm still driving a 2001 Prius and have zero bad things to say about it. I can completely recommend saving $10,000 - $15,000 and buying a Classic instead of the new model. I get better mileage in my classic Prius than most of the current model Prius owners do in theirs, so don't let the lower posted MPG deter you, either.

2 weeks ago I traded in my 2002 Prius, and funny enough got exactly $9500 for it at the dealership (traded in for a 2007 Prius, which was hard enough to find). My 2002 had just under 80,000 miles on it, so price-wise, $9500 for 118,000 isn't that bad.

As others have said, I would be weary of any car with that amount of miles, but if I had to get a high-mileage car, it would be a Prius. I traded in my 2002 because I got a good deal on the trade-in and the 2007 car, but if I would have kept the 2002 it felt like it could have easily lasted to 150,000 before "old age" car problems would crop up.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have now found a 2005 with 23,000 and GPS for 19,000. I think I will go with that one.
