Ok. I've waved at a few prius strangers on the road, just like the South Park episode. I've received some strange looks. Should I quit? Is it too weird? With more and more people buying this car, perhaps the level of enthusiasm for this car just isn't where it once was.

    Presumptive? No.

However I think the wave is over. I've waved at a few people recently and nothing. Before if you were stopped at a light or even in traffic, another Prius driver would look your way. No one does that anymore either. I think there are now too many Prii adn the novelty has worn off.

But if someone waves at me, I'll be sure to wave back.

I've driven an extremely uncommon motorcycle that still has the wave thing going on and drove a PT Cruiser which also did the wave thing for a while. On the PT, you hit a saturation point where many drivers were just people who bought a car that fit their needs.

The Prius is most certainly at this point in my area. I am 100% sure that several of the people I've seen with them don't know diddly about the car's technology and may not even know what a hybrid really is... they just know it operates like a normal car and they get good MPG.

My favorite are the "little old ladies" that I keep seeing in them.

I think it's a great thing that it's getting this type of acceptance even if it means that you can't just park next to a Prius owner and be guaranteed some fun conversation about the car.

I was just talking to DH about this yesterday! I was lamenting the fact that we missed out on the time period where the "wave" was common (just got the car last month - too late!). Larry David's take on it had me stretching and flexing my waving hand, getting ready, but I had to "curb my enthusiasm" so I didn't look like a complete moron.

And btw, I'm in north Florida, where EVERYTHING (including Prius) takes an extra year to catch on... and I STILL missed it!!!

Well I wave, and sometimes I get a wave back, sometimes just a smile. A smile is worth two waves, in my book. It's all good. ;) Yesterday, an employee of "Telus", the local phone company, was driving a white company Prius, and he smiled -and- waved. Paydirt! :)

Depends on where you are driving, I think. Recently I went on a trip to northern michigan. When I was coming back, a Prius passed and the passenger waved at me. The road was pretty much empty, and my license plate probably conveyed the massage that I like my car. I smiled at her, but couldn't wave since I was driving and her waving was a sudden surprise to me.

What can I say, I'm a friendly guy. I wave. I wave back if they see me first and I can react quick enough. I smile and wave at all hybrids - Camrys, Highlanders, Accords, Insights, even FEHs. Whether or not it was their intention, every hybrid driver is helping slow climate change, and that deserves some recognition. Big waves and smiles at electric cars!

I think it should be sold with the car... a manual or something that says.. "please wave to a fellow Hybrid user"
    :D

its a nice thing to have an eco friendly car and people that care enough to wave at you for your choice to do a good thing

I wave when I notice in time. I have only gotten one wave back but I do it as my way of saying "Hey, Nice car!". They may not notice in time to wave back to me, but they may wave to the next one they see.

I used to drive a Jeep C-J5 back when they were still uncommon. Jeep drivers always waved to each other back then, but as they numbers increased, the waving dropped off. I thought about mounting a mechanical arm and hand so I could just step on a button and have it wave for me.

i'm a shy driver.. i barely look at anyone in other cars (xcept at stops and such), let alone prius drivers.

it's something i've always had a problem with.. the worst situation for me is to be stopped neck and neck with someone at a light.. i NEVER look over.

am i so alone on this one?

besides all that, the south park episode does a good job explaining my feelings on the topic. my mother drives a mercedes m class suv.. got it back when they first came out... and she once told me about another lady waving to her from another m class as they were crossing each other at an intersection.

i laughed for half an hour straight.. and what seems to be such ridiculousness of situation to me, i have never forgotten.. certainly not when i got the prius and started reading about the "clubbiness" of the car.
but more power to ya'll who keep the wave goin strong.

when it was about my mother's mercedes, i think my perception was coming from the anarchist in me... which has now been proven utter hypocrite.

I wave at every Prius I see Old and New. Your right, more often then not I get ignored but I have had two memorable occasions where I got a smile and a wave back and its just the greatest. Both of those times I had my car packed full of people. Once with family, the other with friends... I will continue to wave and smile everytime I see one. There is nothing wrong about being friendly.

    I wave.
I'll park next to another Prius whenever possible.
My Dear Hubby laughs at me sometimes... but, I don't care.

I wave at other blue Prii and if they have temp tags (new cars).

When I park next to a Prius and see the owner getting in or out, I like to say "Nice car!" They almost always say something nice in return.

If somebody waves I wave back. I at least look over and smile at my fellow Prius drivers.

I have had a few people wave and I wave back. It reminds me of when I used to ride motorcycles almost everybody waveed.

At the same time I would be waving my whole drive sometimes here in Arizona. I sometimes have 3 and 4 Priuses pass me at the same time.

Some people, like myself, did not buy the car for "eco-friendly" reasons. Thus, waving at someone with thinking they bought the car for the same reason may not be an accurate thought. :)

Don't worry about them, wave away! For many people used to more normal cars having a cult car like the Prius will be a reverlation in many ways, one of which being the fellowship rfom other owners.

I think your great for waving - Continue!

“Early-Adopter†Prius owner-drivers, many whom were ex-lead footed Porsche drivers in “Triple-Digit Horse Power Withdrawal,†waved at each other in passing as Porsche drivers once did. This is not so anymore. With today’s burgeoning Prii population, if you were to “Wave,†it would have to be as part of a “Group Wave†like that of the crowd at a Super Bowl Football Game.

    [/quote]

Hey, not all of us are "ex-lead footed Porsche drivers in triple digit horsepower withdrawal". I kept the Porsche when I got the Prius. Actually we used to flash our headlights at each other rather than wave, but that was a long time ago...
