LOL - thanks for the funny post ... you just knew that some would fall for the bait ...

If people only would appreciate good sarcasm and understand the meaning of "hehehehe" and "LOL" ... but instead the Prius defence mechanism takes over :)

maybe a warning sign is required ... like:

It was obvious to me that he was joking. I didn't even read far enough to see the smiley.

SURE HE DID . . . after the fact.

Besides, it's not whether or not those of us who posted in response realized it was Funny On Purpose.

We responded for the edification of all the other readers in the future who wouldn't recognize the original post for what it is.
    **** YEahhhh, that's right . . . that's the ticket. ****

Sorry, chitown, the sense of humour around here isn't what it used to be, Monday or not. And yes, it's usually funnier when somebody doesn't 'get it', but you shouldn't have to put up with this kind of abuse.

I agree. I think the trend has been toward the snarky and defensive in the past few months. People don't take the time to fully read a post nor to consider the ramifications of their responses. While we have our share of trolls throwing that label out there as a knee jerk response to anything one considers slightly negative toward the Prius is juvenile and probably worse than the real trolls.

We should be trying to "win the hearts and minds" of the non-believers out there. We should be demonstrating that we're a diverse accepting bunch with a sense of humor that doesn't take things too seriously. I think we can do that while still demonstrating a passion for this car.

It was a lovely satirical jibe at the real trolls who do come on here, posting that they are upset that they are only getting 40 MPG on their first tanks...

    Beautiful. :D

I don't know what's funnier, the original post or the reaction to it. :)

Maybe you should have added 5 smileys instead of 3 and changed "hehehe" to "hehehe LOL ROFL hehe". ;)

A blind man with a stick could see the oiginal post was a joke.

I don't believe it is possible for the average consumer (meaning you & me) to determine the origin of the gas flowing out of any station's pump. Now that the Mexican refineries are closed there will be a scramble to find an alternate supply.

Refering to the first post, it's a pleasure to come across an American with a sense of humour.

Too many times it's freedom, rights, democracy, fighting for freedom, terrorists, 9/11, boo hoo, guns, helmets & seatbelts taking our rights boo hoo.
Good to see septic tanks can have a laugh sometimes, now we need to teach your mates to recognise a joke. :p

Oh, so now I get it.

The fact that the OP included . . .

    "
    hehehehe... :p "

. . . and that he posted in the Main Prius Forum instead of FHOP is irrefutable proof that he was just joking.

To me, that the same as someone yelling "FIRE" in a movie theater. 'Oh, but I was just joking.'

Hmmmmm . . . maybe I should try posting a joke in the Main Prius Forum . . . all I need to do is add the word "Prius" . . .

Did You Hear About The Ignorant Liberal Driving a Prius? hehehehe... :p

With all due respect, it seems to me that the climate here is amongst the worst I've seen on a car-related forum. Aggressive, assertive posts, name calling ('troll' is after all entirely dismissive of what has often turned out to be a perfectly valid point), members piling on and escalating opposition or discussion to the point of absurdity and argument, belligerence.... these are things that have a chilling effect on new members particularly. Many is the time I have been inclined to add a post to a thread and decided not to as a result of the tone of many posts in general, and I'd bet there are others who do the same.

And since it's apparent that a few self-serving members, many long-standing, seem inclined to be very pushy and unable to control the impulse to insult, belittle or inflame, let alone actually read and attempt to understand a post to which they feel obliged to respond, the problem is one of lax moderation. In one thread, a moderating voice managed only 'come on guys this could be taken as piling on', only after several pages of complete inflammatory nonsense - which indeed you had helped kick off.

Yeah, well I expect as a result of posting this some smart-nice person is going to chime in that they hope the door hits me on the way out. I don't expect much better here - which is a shame because what was a great resource for learning about this car has become the last place I'd go to discuss it.

By the way, the OP's initial post was so clearly a (good) attempt at humor that it was incredibly funny to see some responders making real fools of themselves for failing completely to see it. Wisdom is the first victim of any hurry to condemn.

Let me make sure I'm clear on this. You are piling on to the complaints about those that missed the joke and you are name calling with an aggressive assertive post to state that there is too much piling on, aggressive assertive posts, and name calling here? Aren't you just adding to the problem? Wouldn't it have been better to simply question the behaviour than to resort to piling on, aggression, and name calling?

I think you're way off base. You're certainly entitled to your opinion on the matter, but while there are, indeed, outstanding exceptions in general the majority of the posts are quite polite, respectful and helpful.

Moderation is, for the most part, hands off. Always has been and always will be. Personal attacks are not tolerated. In the post you mention above where I suggested the piling on the OP, if you wish to remember, made some ludicris claims, then defensively argued in support of his ludicris claims even when presented with data clearly to the contrary. FWIW said original OP has subsequently been banned for personal attacks against other members and then made threats of physical harm to me personally when I had the audiacity to briefly suspend him from posting after he did so.

Yesterday we had an organized attack from a Hummer forum...did you notice? Doubt it...because the lax moderation nipped it in the bud within minutes of it starting. The lax moderator also found the forum of origin, registered there, and reported said post to the moderator of that forum. Now, I'm not sure how many auto forums you've participated in before making your judgements about this one, but I can assure you that there is much hostility and aggression in many others as well. People are people. They have personalities...some polite, some abrasive..,..the abrasive ones will stand out...it's the nature of the beast.

But if someone comes here, makes a legitimate attempt to be polite, sincere, ask an intelligent question or statement they'll be treated in kind with only very rare exceptions.

Sorry you find our efforts here inadequate, this forum is what it is...the single most successful Prius forum in North America, and possibly the world...but it won't be right for everyone. For a quieter place check out PriusOnline...but it's got it's nasty folk too....a couple of them banned from here b/c of their untoward behavior, yet they live on there freely b/c of truely lax moderation. But it suits some better, maybe you as well.
