My 2008 prius (picked up tonight in the dark) is supposed to have "factory" tint and I'm trying to figure out if I got screwed. Can someone give me an idea of how dark the factory tint is? My windows appear very very lightly, if at all tinted. Looking at them directly they do not appear tinted, but if I hold my hand on the opposite side then my hand is a slightly different color so the glass isn't absolutely 100% transparent, but they don't look "tinted" either. Since it's advertised by Toyota as UV filtering tint I'm trying to figure out if it's a very light shade that filters UV, or if it's supposed to have some color to it. When I roll the window down and look at the edge there is absolutely no line where the color changes, so if the glass is tinted then it appears to be "in" the glass and not "on" the glass. I'm not concerned about the color, just trying to figure out if I really got what I paid for.

you're going to have to look during the day. regional tint comes with little stickers on the windows. factory tint doesn't have any stickers but it's embedded in the glass, not a film.

All Prius' come from the factory with tint. The tint is just very light, roll the window down halfway and look, the glass is tinted. As Galaxee said, its imbedded in the glass and its not a film. Most modern cars ship with imbedded tint.

Thanks for the responses. The tint I'm referring to is a $275 option from the factory, not standard equipment. If you go to www.toyota.com and build your own car it's shown as:

Window Tint UV Rating of 98.5%-99%-TW50 $275

That is a Port Installed Option (PIO) done by the independent regional distributor, not the factory in Japan. It is available only in the Southeast and Gulf regions, not in the regions where Toyota Motor Sales, USA is the distributor.

what visible light transmittance is it supposed to have? i've got 45 on the windshield and 30 on the rest of the windows and it's clearly darker than any car around it.

    [i LOVE that. :p]
