Tires: Any experience with Nokian WR G2 vs other Nokians?

    Hello all,

    I've been following the threads here on all weather tires; particularly the Nokian WR and Hakkapallita RSI's. Most people seem to liek both of them. I called a local tire shop and he recommends the Nokian WR G2. They sound good and look good on the Nokian web site. Anyone have any experience with them or comparison info with the WR and or Hakkawhatevers?

    I'm in NE and would like a good all season tire that is good in rain and snow, slush etc.

    They're brand new so probably not too many people have them yet.

    Higher load rating compared to the WR in the Prius 185/65-15 size and slightly lower weight. Sounds good on paper!

    They talk about the canola oil lowering rolling resistance, but I didn't see any data to back that up.

    Bottom line would be price. You can get the WR for around $100 per tire in the US (15" size). What's the cost for the WR G2?

    I don't think you can go wrong with Nokians, it's still a properly winter rated all-season tire, and still uses the technology developed by Nokian tire engineers.

    See if your tire place will swap them for WRs if they are too noisy or otherwise unsuitable. The inside tread pattern looks aggressive.

    I was considering it but it was too new that there wasn't any review or any personal experience that I could find on any other car forum.

    According to this image that I found on a Subaru forum (Legacy?), the WRG2 is slightly better in all aspects than the WR but one particular aspect is slush which had the greatest improvement. That's about it.

    Dave,

    I had an email exchange with their tech support and the WRg2s have the "same low rolling resistance" as the WRs.

    I just put WRs on my 2004 Prius and early indications are that they indeed improve MPG when compared to either my original Goodyear Integrities or my Michelin MXV4+ "Energy Saving" tires.

    Your request was for an all season tire, so eliminate the Nokian RSi. They are an INCREDIBLE snow tire, they are working great for me and I recommend them 100% for winter driving, but they are NOT all season. I'll switch back for summer driving. They are so good in the snow that I have to remind myself sometimes that I don't have all wheel drive!

    Maybe I'll be the guinea pig and try them! If so I will post back here on my experiences.

    David - They were about $104 apiece, plus balancing etc. THat was from a tire dealer in Glastonbury, CT, near Hartford. - I just got their number from the Nokian 'dealer' site and called asking about Nokians for a Prius.

    Yea, Canola Oil - doesn't make me think of tires, makes me think of french fries http://priuschat.com/forums/images/smilies/mellow.gif

    Nope.. in your lovely greenback :p.

    In loonies, that'll be $140/tire. Which doesn't seem like a lot but when you factor in that your US$110/tire includes everything but tax and our $140/tire doesn't include anything.. yeah you can see the difference.

    In fact, it's about a $200-$300 difference!
