Boy, it is getting bad here in Missouri. We still have power but freezing rain is coming down and trees and powerlines are getting heavy. My drive has about an inch of ice on it now. My Prius is safe in the garage and not going anywhere for a while. It may be a long night.

I'm working from home today. Chicago's not supposed to get it as bad as you got it, but I'm still going to err on the safe side.

The news just reported that both airports are canceling flights and Metra trains an hour late.

I've seen pictures on the news and pray that it gets better for all of you. Maine and southern Canada had a severe ice storm a few years ago that was also devastating. As I was watching all this I was thinking of how I would manage in a similar situation. Makes getting off the grid seem more important than ever before, even if just to keep my heating system running.

I'm South of I-44 in MO and we've had very little of the severe ice that those North of the invisible boundry have this year. Last year it hit this area extremely badly.
Hunker down those of you involved, crank up the generators if you have them, make some hot cocoa and the Monopoly board and wait it out.

BTW, we've seen a huge boom in childbirths here 9 months after the ICE storm...coincidence? I think not!!

Just got power back today (week after storm). We are still on a boil order for water. It looks like a bomb went off here. Tree trimmers will have a job for life. It is really hard to go a full week without net access.

Now today (12-22-07-Sat.) we have had 8 inches of blowing snow and more coming down. There was a 20 to 40 car pile-up on I-29 south of St. Joseph, Mo. 100 miles of I-29 has been shut down due to the storm. Somebody must have cursed this area. Prius safe in garage and not coming out. It is kind of like owning a groundhog.

Whether it's ice storms or hurricanes, I like having a Prius (or two) with a full tank of gas in the garage or close by.

Better safe in the garage than in the 40 car pile-up:D.
