Actually, on that note can I ask a favor? To those users with 08's and who don't have a sat kit already, can they put their DICE kits in SAT mode and report back how it works for them? Stability should be different in the 2 modes and I want to gauge that.

Preliminary results are promising. In "SAT" mode, the correct and current text (artist and song name only, since that's all satellite radio displays anyway) is shown when the "SAT1: DICE" "preset" is selected, and the up/down buttons on the steering wheel correctly advance one track at a time.

Selecting any of the other "DICE" "presets" brings up the correct mode (advance by playlist, advance by album, etc.), but the text is replaced with "LONG SCROLL" and the name of the mode ("ALBUM," "PLAYLIST," CHAPTER," etc.).

This is a major improvement over the (currently broken) CDC/MP3 modes, but I'd really prefer the MP3 mode for a couple of reasons:

1.) I'd like the option to add a real satellite tuner in the future, and

2.) The user interface of the DICE "virtual satellite tuner" is somewhat clunkier than the CDC/MP3 interface--long presses on the up/down buttons don't work, which means reaching over to the MFD to switch from the text screen to the preset screen, select the desired mode (playlist/album/etc.), then select the next/previous item, then back to "preset 1" and finally back to the text screen to see the result.

I'll try it tomorrow (Friday) and report back. I'll try and take some pics of the screens that I get in SAT mode.

alright, thanks. Can you leave it in that mode for a little while and see what it does?

And yes, I prefer CD mode as well. However, there are things that you can only do in SAT mode and vice-versa.

    And thank you Todd!

Set the DIP switches on my original unit (I've shipped the other one back) and used it this morning on the way to work

It would display the song data with the song. when the song changed to the next track, the text kept up.

But after about 20 minutes of play, it cut out. Could not get it back. Only AM.

Agree with other posts that the CD/MP3 interface is much easier.

Will this ever work in CD/MP3 mode?

That's what I was looking for, thanks.

Oh yes, it most certainly will. We just need to learn what they changed. This sort of stuff happens just about every year.

Well, not EVERY year. This year is more dramatic than most, especially since they didn't really change anything like they did from 05 to 06.

Can you give me the address that I send the replaced unit to?

    Thanks,

Sigh. That honeymoon's over: the DICE unit locks up within the first 2-3 minutes when in SAT mode. First the controls freeze, then the music stops, and finally the audio mode defaults over to FM1 and the "satellite tuner" is gone. Unplugging the "car connector" from the DICE box is the only thing that will get it to respond again, for another 2-3 minutes.

In CDC/MP3 mode, there is now no text, ever.:(

OK, now we're locking up every few hours in CDC/MP3 mode. In other words, there is now no stable operating mode for the DICE unit. It'd be great to hear from Vagabond, since DICE has been ignoring my support "ticket" for the last week. Otherwise, I guess I'll be another "returned DICE and bought VAIS" story...

I'm right here. I don't have anything to report as of right now. But I don't plan on letting this drag out.

My DICE works perfectly in CD MP# mode. I did notice during installation that the plug took a good deal of force to "click in" this issue may be causing these users intermittent operation. you really need to feel that positive "click" for the plug to be properly seated. in addition the plug was easy to remove with the button on the plug depressed. (I do not have a sat receiver)

I'll check mine again, but yeah, I did give it a good push to seat it, and verified that it wouldn't come back out (without pushing the latch tab).

I have an 08 as well. I have it CD/MP3 mode and am not haveing lock-ups. The only issue I have is that it only sees the playlist I last used on the ipod.

Everything else seems to work fine. My usual commute is about 30 minutes, and longest trip has been about an hour.

As I said before I still have this problem with my 07 Prius.

I just got the VAIS yesterday and installed it and drove to work with no problems. Everything worked right out of the box, and I can see all of the play list and never stops working . Just wanted to give my 2 cents since I had the same problem as everyone in this post. Dice gave it a good try and Adam at Dice was a great help just crazy to me that I have no problems with the one from Vais. Oh and if you go to the site they have a holiday discount that brings it down to $199.00.

Yeah, it's in there solidly; but DICE instability is just the same.

I just finished installing the DICE in my 2008 touring pkg 6. I do not have XM or Sirrius nor do I intend on getting either. I have the dip switches in MP3 mode Off ON OFF OFF. I get text and the text keeps up with the songs. Unfortunately I cannot surf through any of the folders. Every folder/line comes up with the exact same text as the current song being played. I tried it in CD mode but the text just disappears. I did not yet try it in Sat mode. Do I need a firmware upgrade? And how do I go about that? Thanks.
