I just purchased a new to me 05 prius.

Its fully loaded with the highly coveted HOV stickers. The previous owner couldn't find the HOV documentation that accompanies the stickers, but swore that they are legit. He said i could get the docs from the DMV no problem.

Does anyone have any links as to where I can request these docs or the process I will have to go thru?

    Thanks in advance

Transferring Clean Air Vehicle Stickers to Your Name
    1. Complete an Application for Clean Air Vehicle Stickers (REG 1000).
    2. Check the “Replacement ID card only” box.
    3. If the clean air vehicle is a hybrid and you are a resident of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano or Sonoma County, you must include an original Bay Area FasTrak receipt as evidence of a "FasTrak" toll account. The FasTrak receipt must show evidence that a toll account was issued specifically to your hybrid vehicle. Do not submit evidence of pre-existing FasTrak accounts for other vehicles, as this will delay your application. Bay area applicants are advised to contact Bay Area FasTrak at 877-229-8655 or visit the Bay Area FasTrak website before submitting a request to transfer Clean Air Stickers for a hybrid vehicle.
    4. Submit the completed REG 1000 and FasTrak receipt to the address on the REG 1000 form.

Item 3 and 4 obviously do not apply to you since you live in "Greater Los Angeles" area. You might also want to put down "New owner" at the blank area as reason for replacement.
The HOV receipt goes with owners. Ex-owner's receipt has no use to you.
You need to file this form with or after you file the title transfer.

Ahh so basically any used hov vehicle you purchase you'd need to get new hov docs anyways?

    makes sense.

    Thanks!

Sounds EXACTLY like my 05. Silver, grey leather, bluetooth, side airbags, 6 cd changer, JBL, smart key, etc. Mine is a pkg #6, or at least it is #6 on the list of options from Toyota, also called BC(?) I believe. Either way, it is the best equipped model for 05. There is a thread here somewhere which lists the option packages for all years. Sorry I don't have it, but if you do a search I am sure you will find it.

Leather was not a factory option in 05. GPS came only on the highest package that year, 6.
    PZEV. Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle.

Don't thank him, he was wrong. 2004+ Prius is ATPZEV.

Correct. However, the dealer or aftermarket installed leather does not change the determination of what package your car is. That was your question, wasn't it?
You are right. I stand corrected.

I just went to look at the green PZEV sticker on the driver side rear window of my car. The acronym PZEV occupies as much space on it as the two words "Advanced Technology" combined.

So i need to include a check to the DMV for 8.00 for the new ID card document?

    Is that correct as well?

Actually, no. I assumed that when I submitted the form to transfer the stickers on the Prius I bought. The DMV returned the uncached check with my paperwork.

You are free to include it anyway, just to be sure. No harm. They seem to be use to that. The instructions are not clear in this.

    Yeah too late :)

Ill gladly pay the 8.00 necessary or not -- as long as I get the docs :)
