What is the difference in MFD screens

    I have noticed in the book they refer to screen Type A and Type B. They do look different, but what is really the difference? I have a new 2008 Touring model with package #6.

    The older screens, which are still used in the base model, have lower resolution. The graphics look more like they are drawn in crayon.

    The type B looks more 3D, the separate icons have a relief edging. Is the newer type screens?

    The higher resolution and color depth allows for fancier graphics. That's why it looks better.

    our new Prius is a 2008 Touring, with package #6. The screen does not have the 3D effect, is this an error?

    The high-res screen, which your 08 should have, has rounded buttons; the earlier screens buttons are rather rectangular. Any 3D effect is in the eyes of the viewer.

    My 2008 w/package 6 (not the touring) uses type A as well. Looking at the two side-by-side in the manual, I prefer the look of A (from what can be seen from those black and white screenshots). Here's an image of the display from 2003. It's come a long way.

    To put it short, if you have the backup camera, you have the higher resolution screen. If not, you have the lower resolution screen.

    The hires screen has two colour bgs - orange and green.
    The lowres screen has 4 colour choices - blue, green, grey and brown (beige)

    Thank you all for the response. We have the round icons. The instruction book seems a bit confusing A or B. Does anyone know why there are two types displays?

    The lower resolution screen was made first. Toyota later added the higher resolution screen. Cost is the reason that both still exist.
