    I think it may be new to the 08. It's covered in the "Customization" chapter in the manual of my 08. (Chapter 6-2) Is there any mention of it in your manual?

    This is a misprint in the Owners Manual. Others have wasted multiple trips to multiple dealerships before the various dealerships finally figure out that this isn't a feature on the Prius. Don't waste your time.

    My response would also be "You've got to be kidding me" or "What are you smoking?".

    Granted, while I have an '07 Camry Hybrid, the general idea should be the same. According to the TCH New Car Features Manual, you (really the service dept) "ONLY"need Toyota's Handheld tester to adjust the customizable features.

    As I said, this is for an '07 TCH, and YPMV (Your Prius May Vary), but I doubt that they would need all sets of keys. (Unless they think that they believe that they may totally screw up and wipe out the list of keys associated with your car.)

    So are you saying that it's not a feature on the 2007? Are you sure it's not available on the 2008?

    My friend has it on his '08, straight from the dealer, he hasn't done ANY mods. At least on the '08 it's possible. I called my dealer, and they said I'd have to bring my '07 in, but it should be possible they said.

    Hello Grunthos;
    I have a new 2008 package 2 Prius and the doors don't lock when I put the car in drive. I called the dealer and they are going to set it up for us. They said it would take about a half an hour to do.He didn't say anything about needing both sets of keys. I will bring them both to be sure it gets done right. I will let you know how it all turns out
    Thanks for asking about this, I think it is a good safety feature to use.

    Let me know if they actually need the second key. I'd love to be correct about this... Also, don't forget that unlocking when you shift to park is a different setting. If you want them both set up, you may want to mention that as well.

    Hi Gunthos;
    Here is the update for you. Danny Hamilton was right. The dealership called me and set up an appointment. My wife took the car in today for the fix. She was told the manual is wrong and they couldn't do it for her. I called the dealership and left a message for the one that set up the appointment to call me back. That is poor service to have someone take the car in when you cant provide what they want. He should have at least talked to the tech before he made the appointment.
    So it is a no go on the automatic locking feature.:mad:

    Have fun with your prius

    I started this thread and then have not looked at it for a while. Thanks for all the posts. I'm very interested in hearing someone's experience actually going to the dealer to get this. If that does not work, I'm going to design my own mod when i get a chance. It's fiendishly simple, which is why I'm stumped that the body computer won't just do it. But the things other people have already designed just need to be modified slightly.

    Let me know if any of you get it programmed by your dealers.

    Thanks, Steve

    I'm a little confused here...

    Some say that they have an '08 that came with this feature when they bought it, and others are saying that the dealers say it can't be done...? :confused:

    Well - take it to your dealership and get a direct answer. Obviously it's a debated subject here. That's settle it pretty quickly. ;)

    Hello all;
    Here is another update on the continuing saga of the automatic door locks.The dealer told us they could do this for us. My wife took the car to the dealers on Friday.For what ever reason they couldn't set up the door locks for us.This morning I get a phone call from the service manager. He told me he looked through his service manual. He says if I want to bring the car in and leave it they will hook up the computer and see what they can do. I don't really want to take the chance on having them screw up my new car so I will probably wait until someone definitely finds out if it can be done or not.
    Regards
    John
