I didn't comment about slow running; so, don't know where that response was directed. 2 Gb of RAM can get crowded depending on what applications you are using. I am in the process of trading up from a 2Gb RAM constrained MacBook Pro to a current model with 4Gb.

The interesting thing (for me) is that notebooks appear to be moving toward flash drives (by whatever name the manufacturer chooses to call them). Sony has a T series VAIO with a 40Gb flash drive; The Air has a 64Gb flash drive. I wonder what will be making the rounds at the end of 2008? 100Gb flash drives?

I saw that optional superdrive and the optional flash drive and it's very tempting.

There's usually a nice sale for educators around April. I'll probably wait until then or a little later. I'll be finishing up my master's and National Board Certification in April so I'll start shopping and making decisions after that is over. My needs will change.

I did see a really nice all in one printer, scanner, copier. I need to replace my printer and my scanner. If I do upgrade my computers I'll update my airport station as well. If I go further and buy the timecapsule I really don't need a large harddrive for storage so maybe the MacAir might do. I notice I can use it with an LCD projector which I absolutely have to do for work. The lack of the firewire still bothers me. I'll read the reviews come April and see what problems people have been having.

sounds like you definetly need more processing power. lil power hungry? hehe

from what i read online about flash drive.. since it's basically already booted (no searching for content) it loads super quick.. therefore 4gigs may not be necessary? *shrug*

someone will have to buy one on priuschat.. then we'll have to test it. hehe

Apple is an American company which outsources most of its manufacturing jobs to other countries.

Lenovo is a mainland Chinese company, listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange, which bought IBM's Personal Computing Division and all of its registered trademarks including the IBM logo and the ThinkPad brand name.

IBM and Lenovo — Q&A for customers

Does that difference make a purchaser of an Apple laptop a better American than someone who buys a Lenovo product?

Besides, why would someone who drives a car manufactured in Japan by a Japanese company object to buying a computer made in China by a Chinese company (partly owned by IBM - 18.9%) which purchased an American brand?

    I'm not making myself clear.

    I trust Apple quality control.

I won't buy anything requiring a Microsoft operating system.

you mean a system like the one in the prius? there was a post on it a while back. it runs off a microsoft sub system.. such as the systems used in cell phones.

sure toyota programmed it.. but microsoft built the base for it. i wish i could find that old post again.

But if you had the service a couple of weeks ago, you could have been sitting in the hospital bed streaming "Live Free or Die Hard" in HD from the comfort of your backless gown! You can't say that's not cool (even if your laptop can't play HD).

I found out a couple of interesting things today. Apparently 20th Century Fox is including an iTunes digital version of their movies on every Blu Ray disk. Even more interesting, however, is that as people still argue over format wars, Apple sold over 7 million movies so far vs. the only 6 million disks sold of HD DVD and Blu Ray combined!

iTunes enters into the HD DVD vs Blu-ray war with bigger sales - TECH.BLORGE.com

...and that was before Apple had all the major studios and their HD rentals!

I'll tell you one thing, I may still subscribe to Netflix (for the moment anyway), but I don't think I'll ever have to go to Blockbuster again. Why pay $4 for a DVD rental I have to return when I can pay $5 for an HD rental from iTunes! It will be especially great since it's pretty snowy where I live.

wow. only 4 bucks? because they were 3.98 per rental in my little hometown in 1999 when i started working at the video store...

they've gone way up since in my experience. even in 04 when i finally left retail they were something like 4.29.

You may be right, the Blockbuster rentals may be more like $5. My point is I may never go to Blockbuster again because I can now rent HD movies for about the same price as an ordinary DVD, and from the comfort of my own home.

Not only that, but the iTunes store my have more titles than the Blockbuster physically has in their store. And you don't have to worry about a poor picture due to wear and tear of the rental.

Ah, but then there is again some good news for you: Lenovo computers actually don't require you to run MS OS. The magic word: Linux.

Lenovo is quite committed to supporting Linux on their computers. And, these days, there exist several add-ons for Linux that take advantage of the tablet form factor.

And, if you distrust the Chinese quality control, you can buy a Toshiba Tablet PC and run Linux. Or, if buying 'American' makes you feel better, you can buy a HP Tablet PC and run Linux on it. You would have your laptop with touch screen and foldable keyboard, and still have nothing to do with Microsoft.

Or buy Apple, which has the best quality, software and now entertainment and be done with it.

Hmmm..., you see, the whole point is that Godiva wanted a laptop with a touch screen and a keyboard that can be folded away. You can find that out pretty fast if you take the effort to read through the thread.

Now, as far as I know, Apple hasn't made such a product yet. I was simply trying to give a few alternative possibilities.

But rumor has it that Apple is actually developing such a product together with Asus (a leader in PC laptops). That would be great, because I'm sure that Apple would get that form factor right (after all, UI is their great strength).

I see that. What I am pointing out are the mental gymnastics I see people going through to not buy Apple. Usually, as Godiva points out correctly, if it involves Vista or Microsoft your plan will not end well..

Couldn't you just buy an Asus Eee PC for 1/4 the cost of a Air, or 4 for the same cost, and have a much more portable package and a machine that isn't running either Vista or MacOS?

:confused::confused: What are you trying to say??? I don't have any "plan" here.
If Godiva wants a laptop with a touch screen and a foldable keyboard but doesn't want to buy anything else besides Apple, that's fine with me. Although one could argue that that's "mental gymnastics" for buying Apple.

The only thing I did was (1) pointing out that those devices exist and, in a response about the remark that they would require MS OS (2) point out that they will happily run Linux.
So, can you again tell me where you see mental gymnastics happening?

I for one just buy my tools from the brand that fit best to my needs, without any blind brand zeal. Sometimes, that's Apple, but often it's not.

This is the real key element behind Steve Jobs announcement at Macworld - convenience. A couple of clicks and you are watching your movie.

I do have one other question after looking at the Apple TV specs further - the 720p frame rate is listed as 24fps. Won't that produce a slightly choppy playback?
