Sounds like a defective DICE box. It worked, then failed. If you can hear the sound, the plugs are connected, so the data for the display should flow too. Will they swap it for a different unit?

Got a few questions:

1) How long does it take to change songs? I've got over 3000 songs in my ipod, so it's important to go through them quickly

2) How many playlists can you have and how many songs in playlist? the VAIS unit says 99 songs in 99 playlists, but I can't find out how many on the DICE

3) When you search for songs, do they only appear as TRACK 1, TRACK 2, etc. unless you hit the TEXT button for each individual song, i.e. can you only hit the TEXT button once and the MFD will display all the info for each and every song as you search through them.

Any info would be greatly appreciated - may just make or break my Christmas gift.

THANKS!

About a second or so. If you're looking for a specific song, I'd use the controls on the iPod.

I have only about 23 playlists, but have over 99 songs on some of them. No problem with the number of songs.

When I'm on a certain playlist, if the button is on D1, TITLE will show Title, Artist and Album. By tapping the button on the steering wheel, it will go to the next song. The problem is that while the song starts right away, the information lags by a couple of seconds. For example, one of my playlists is old radio shows. When I get to that playlist (via D2), I use the Title to see which episode I'm listening to (I'm listening to them in order and need the title as all start the same way).

Hi Pat. These answers are my observations on my 2005 Prius.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hazmat Pat @ Dec 18 2006, 05:03 PM) </div>
About a second. See answer 3 too.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hazmat Pat @ Dec 18 2006, 05:03 PM) </div>
As far as I can tell, it limited only by your iTunes Library organization. See the discussion in previous posts about changing between Albums and Playlists and Chapters (whatever they are).<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hazmat Pat @ Dec 18 2006, 05:03 PM) </div>
Unless you hit the TITLE button, you only see Disc 1 Track nn. If you've hit the TITLE screen button, you can see the name of each song as you switch, almost. You don't have to hit TITLE for every song, just leave that display up until you want to change playlists. Pressing the ^ button on the steering wheel moves to the next song in about a second or less, but displaying the song name may take up to about 4 seconds. When you're just listening, one song will stop and the next one begin, then the display updates to show you what you're listening to.

As I mentioned in a previous post, you can't see the name of your playlist, so you either have to memorize the order (pointless) or guess what the playlist is from the song you're hearing. I find it easier to select a playlist with the iPod, start and pause the first song in the playlist, then select CD2 (the DICE unit) and go from there. But I tend to build specific playlists for different moods. Turns out I really like driving electronica for freeway driving... For heavy-traffic rush (?) hour, piano jazz keeps me cool.

Bill,

I would have loved to sign up through PC but I didn;t order until the 2nd week of December and I wnated it by XMas. So, $159 vs $135 didn't seem so usurous....of course there was that pesky shipping!

As far as the issues I am having with my unit...no change. The e-mail from Dension said they would contact me for resolution by 12/23, but no contact so far. I did try pulling the 15A Dome fuse, but still no change.

Can you adjust the default volume or sound settings of the DICE unit for the iPod mode?

I installed mine today -- it was much easier that I thought, given that this kind of things is not my forte -- can someone confirm that when advancing (be it playlists or albums) it doesn't wrap around.
What I mean is, suppose you have 3 playlists, it goes playlist one, playlist two, playlist three and then to the main menu of the ipod (which is pretty useless while you're driving).

Does it behave like this for you ppl too? I have a 04' prius and a nano iPod.

Thanks

I think I found the installation instructions that Bill was referring to. The link below is for a satellite radio installation, but parts should be applicable when it comes to dash access. I have a USA Spec ipod adapter I plan to install myself. Warning - reading the whole article at once could dissuade a novice from ever installing anything; it looks a bit overwhelming.

Happy reading.

I'm trying to access podcasts through the Dice interface. According to the intructions, I should be able to set the CDC to Disc 5, Track 1 and I should be able to control what the iPod is outputting manually. I am not able to. It starts playing songs on my iPod and the display on the iPod remains on the 'auxiliary connection' screen. My dipswitches are set to OFF/OFF for car configuration switch and OFF/OFF for the iPod configuration switch.

If I want to access podcasts will I need to change the iPod configuration switch or is there another way to do this?

2004 Toyota Prius, no navigation (obviously), no cd changer. Of course my radio does support text and all of the other features seem to work properly with text displaying on the screen just fine.

Thanks,
Patrick

Does anyone have a valid link to the instructions where you don't have to remove the MFD and can, if you're patient and have small enough hands, access the back of the radio by removing the lower glovebox and right side vent panel?

I remember, a few years ago, helping a friend install the Gen 1 Dension iPod kit in his 2005 Prius and we were able to do it in under an hour during our lunch break.

Thanks in advance.

Is this true???? I just received my dice unit and my wife REALLY does not want me to tear apart the whole dash. I am willing to do what it takes in any case.
