    Times change. It now depends on the voltages and distances involved. High Voltage DC has many advantages over AC - economically, environmentally, and operationally - when transmitting large quantities of power over long distances.

    battery conversion is not the issues, its the distance you can transport electricity. AC losses over distances is simply too much. voltage has to be cranked skyhigh just to go a few hundred miles.

    dont quote me, but they were talking sending DC thousands of miles at just 250 volts verses several hundred thousands of volts for AC...

    i have to go back and relisten. it was detailed in a SciAm podcast about a month ago.
