    Hi folks,

As a lurker for about a month, thanks to all of the participants that have made this such an informative place. I really have learned alot!

I just picked up my 2008 Touring on Friday (Magnetic Gray with aftermarket by dealer leather seats and "bun warmers") and chose not to pay the premium for the factory nav system since I already had a Garmin 330. I'm curious as to where those of you that have a similar type of GPS device mount them. I find that my Garmin mount tends to lose suction and fall off the windshield when mounted there.

So, those of you that have a similar set up, please let me know how and where you put yours!

    Thanks,

    ChaPrius

I mount mine on top of the dash, left of the MFD.

My Garmin 2610 in it's bean bag mount sits on top of the MFD.

In my previous car ('98 Saab 900) I used the suction cup mount to hold my Garmin C320 on the windshield. In my new Prius that puts it too far away for easy manipulation, and for my aging eyes to read some of the street names.

With some skepticism I ordered the Garmin beanbag mount, but I have to say I'm very happy with it - doesn't slide around at all and never falls off the window :D. I've got it on the top of the dash, left of the steering wheel.

Lower left windshield near the light sensor.

Would prefer it in the same location as Boo, on top of the vent, next to the MFD.

I've borrowed my son's Garmin 330 a couple of times and i mounted it on the windshield to the right of the steering wheel. I liked it so much that I have one of my own on the way.

I don't have a GPS (yet), but FYI - here in my 'hood we had a rash of thefts last month. Someone was smashing car windows and stealing valuables that were visible, mostly GPS units. The police advise always removing the GPS from the car when you park it. Also take out any mounting devices because if a thief sees it he will break into the car and look for the GPS in the glovebox, etc.

Same goes for ipods and other valuables - never leave them in the car. Even in a generally low-crime area, you can't be too careful.

My Garmin C320 has no problem sticking to the windshield. It can also ride in the top cup holder and I store it & the mount in the center armrest.

Just like the good old days. Instead of yellow suction cupped signs saying "No Radio", we need some that say "No GPS. No iPod."

I have a Magellan C2100T, and it's exactly the right size to sit on the open door of the cabinet just below the CD player, so I don't need to keep it on a mount, and I can easily stow it in that cabinet.

I mostly use it with the voice prompts when I'm 'navigating' to a destination where I'm not already familiar with the route, or to use it on just the 'map' function on windy, curving roads after dark, since my night vision isn't what it used to be. Having the screen lower than the dash keeps my window totally unblocked, and it's easy to glance down at the screen when I'm doing my regular checks on the rear-view mirrors.

I've never driven with a window-mounted GPS, but I've been a passenger when someone else was driving with one - personally, I don't like it blocking the window at all.

I removed the adhesive from the dash-disk and replaced it with velcro, not wanting a "permanent" mount. I figure I'll be able to peel off the velcro without much problem. I remove the disk when not in use. Mine is mounted to the left of the MFD, on top of the vent.

Garmin 2610, bean bag mount, slightly left of dash when driving. When not in use, it's down on my footwell or passenger side footwell just forward of the front seats. Perfect place, I can't even tell it's there sometimes.

+1 on that location. I'm thinking about fashioning a tray so I can slide my Garmin nuvi 680 in and out of that spot. That way I can close it with no mount visible. With a little of work I can hide the power wires and figure out a way to get the MSN signal.

Anyone have a suggestion for a TomTom ONE? The windshield is too far and the suction only holds on the dash for a short time. I don't want to drill anywhere, if at all possible.

My TomTom ONE came with a round flat dash disc, which accepts the suction. You can either stick the dash disc on with its adhesive backing, or use velcro tape as a previous poster suggested.

Besides the dash disc I described above, you can try the nav-mat:

My Garmin Street Pilot has a "bean bag" stand. It sits on top of the dash, right in front of me. It's easily visible but below the line of sight to the windshield, so it does not block my view of the road. When parked I set it on the floor and carelessly toss a towel or hat over it. When I get back in it takes me two seconds to set it back up on the dash if I need it for that leg of my drive. It's always in its bean bag mount, and the whole thing, bean bag and all, can be moved to the floor. Yet it's heavy enough that it stays put on the dash even in an emergency stop or a hard turn.
