Has anyone transported their pc/mac in the Prius? I need to today but was thinking about all of that electromagnetic
juice flying around. Would it be safe to leave my hard drives in the trunk?

It will be safe to transport computers in the Prius. I have an in car PC and I haven't had any problems with it so far.

The car has a few computers of its own.

You must be refering to the EMF as you drive through the lines of the magnetic field of the earth.

Do you have wifi and bluetooth at home?

Your house has a lot more juice flying around. Don't ever put a computer in your house, or office for that matter. There is a lot of electrical energy moving around in those buildings.

I'm not mocking you specifically, but seriously folks, we hear this sort of thing far too often. People tend to be afraid of anything new, but electricity and electric motors have been with us longer than any of us here on PC. I don't expect everyone to be an engineer or scientist, but I do wish people would apply just a tiny bit of deductive reasoning to help understand new things and novel situations. It goes a long way towards ending some of these silly urban myths.

My laptop travels with me twice a day almost every day. 50 miles round trip.

So far there's been no ill effects or loss of data except that email my manager says he sent me with that action item but I just can't seem to find for some reason. ;-)

My iMac has been the Apple store for training several times with no ill effects - I confess I never considered it would be an issue (and it apparently isn't).

(To clarify, I was the one being trained. Apparently I not only own a car that is smarter than I am, my computer knows more than I do, too. In fact I may be surrounded by gadgets that are plotting to take over. That fancy thermostat on my furnace-a/c-humidifier seems to be eyeing me every time I walk down the hall. Or have I watched too many Terminator movies? :D)

I put my laptop on the backseat and in the trunk all the time. This is right near the battery. No problems after about 10 months.

Same here... And I even carry it in the trunk, right on top of those pesky batteries... :)

If you have a decent computer case, it should provide protection against EMF... assuming there is any EMF that is generated by the prius that are of sufficient strength to damage anything in your computer...

Needless to say, I've transported my "full tower" computer with a plastic window, multiple times. Sometimes in the trunk, sometimes in the back seat.

    All without problems.

We took our Powerbook with us on two trips last year so we could make hotel reservations and the like on the fly. In fact, the semi secret compartment under the cargo area makes a great place to store laptop computers and camera gear.

The only problem with computers in the Prius, that I have ever heard about, is one that was on another thread months ago - basically, they put their laptop over their SKS fob, got out of the car and locked the door. The laptop stopped the car from recognising that the fob was still in the car.

My notebook sits in its bag in the rear footwell right behind my seat whenever I drive on a work related matter. Never a problem.

Dogfriend, Glad you posted this - great idea.

I have a HP PDA/phone/GPS which I carry in my pocket all the time. Lately it has been hot and humid and I have therefore been sweating more than usual and my pocket sometimes gets damp and there can form condensation on my PDA. Recently my PDA has been playing up, I suspect it is because I carry it in my Prius.

Maybe not with as many Apples as you have, but yes, there seems to be a correlation. :)

I have observed a correlation between been creative, skeptic and (dare I say) smart and using a Mac. I attended the Amaz!ng meeting a week ago and the place was full of Macbooks and iPhones. The running joke was the astrology and paranormal meetings would be full of Dell and HP laptops and Windows Mobile phones.

Before someone gets upset this is just a generalization not to be applied to individuals. I am sure there are plenty of creative, skeptic and smart PC users.

I'm unfamiliar with the phrase "white question". Is it a literal translation of a Spanish idiom, "pregunta blanca?"
