I own an 04 Prius with Nav System (US Map). It had been working fine until one weekend I left the door not completely closed. The interior lights drained my battery. I had to have a jump to start the car again. That seemed easy. The Nav System looked ok at first. It showed where I was but then when I tried to enter an address (city specifically), the auto-complete feature started listing the cities in the east coast after few characters entered, I live in the west coast BTW. This stopped me from entering the local cities since a lot of the characters already got greyed out.

I was thinking going into the override menu to reset it (the menu that allows me to enable entering an address while vehical is in motion, I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about). That was a bad idea!! I went in and selected the option to reload the map. That didn't seem to solve my problem, so I tried the next option, which is loading another region's map, it then prompted me "Please insert the correct disc" on the first line and another line in Japanese (I assume they mean the same thing). Since then, I haven't been able to see anything but this screen. It's expecting me to insert a Japan region disc or something before I can get the menu back. I tried unplugged the battery for a week while on vacation. This didn't do anything either. I'm now stucked with this screen. Please help. Thanks...

P.S. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried removing the disc and inserting it back in but that didn't help. I even borrow friend's 05 Prius disc and put it in, still not much luck. BTW, disconnecting all wires connected to the Nav Unit and reconnecting them didn't help either.

Thanks JHSmith and efusco for posting the instruction to change from East to West Coast. I sure will try that once I can get out of the "Please insert the correct disc" screen. If I don't have any other way to get out of this, I would try the internal reset method if someone can tell me how to do it. thanks...

Let me preface my remarks with the caveat that I have an '07 TCH w/ NAV 5.1 disk::cool:

You may want to try to eject your MAP DVD (under driver's seat?) and reinserting it.

As far as system thinking that the default location in on the East Coast vice West Coast: There is a set-up in the main NAV menu area that controls this. I can't remember the steps to get to this screen right now. If you need help, post back and if someone else can't help you, I'll post the steps for MY car and NAV, then you'll "just" need to convert from my 5.1 system to what you have.

I agree, I don't think you need to reset anything, you just need to tell the NAV what area you're interested in. When you hit the DEST button (then I agree) you'll see a graphic of the USA with one area highlighted...probably the West coast in your case. Underneath that there's a button that says "Change". Tap that, select the region you're in/looking for an addy in, tap "OK", and you should be back in business.

There is an internal reset if you really muck things up...but it doesn't sound like you've done any harm.

I think that he is at the point where he needs to utilized the internal reset ("Please insert the correct disc"). IIRC, that procedure was first posted by htmlspinnr.

Thank you so much you guys. That procedure gave me back the menu. I had 2 minor issues after that but they were easy to fix. I'm listing down here in case someone runs into the same problems:

    1) When I entered an address, it searched for cities in the East Coast where I was actually in the West Coast. The fix is as simple as hitting DEST->Change->US2 (or your region)

    2) It actually showed I was some where near Wash. DC where actually was in California. The fix is as simple as hitting MENU->Setup->Calibration and move the current location from East Coast to where I actually was in the West Coast.

Again, thank you all for helping me fixing the problem. The Navigation System is now working like it first came out of the dealer few years ago.

We have a similar problem and reseting the unit did not solve it. Just to save anyone else the hassle of losing all their custom my places.

We paired the maps from the U25 DVD with the ROM file from a U20 DVD (we think that's the last DVD Rom file with an override still on there). It works fine except for some regions. The maps are all okay, but the yellow pages lookup in some regions does nothing and the region map just vanishes from the screen when you press any of the set destination buttons. One must resort to finding and pointing where one wants to go. Or turning on icons and finding it that way on the manp.

Unfortunately we are moving from a working region to a non-working region :(
