I have a 2008 Prius pk #2. It would be nice to be able to use the camera to see behind you when traveling on the interstate. Is there any way to make this mod or add another camera without messing with the warrantee? Thanks.

Yes, you can do it, but it involves stopping and shifting into reverse. This is generally a bad idea on the interstate.

Seriously, there have been a few posts about this modification. It can be done, but it takes a bit of work. A google search of PriusChat should find the old threads.

I followed instructions on an old thread. It will total you $4-6 in parts and 1-2 hours of your time. I installed the switch to look very OEM. In the attached pic the "Camera-ON" switch is in the middle, with EV button on the left. I've gotten many WOW!s and puzzled faces from passengers when turning the camera on while driving.

On a side note if you are at all interested in adding an EV button I suggest doing so at the same time while the dash is apart. Another $4 and a hour of your time and you will have two new mods to show off.

Here is a link to very detailed step by step "how to" with great pictures. Unfortunately, I don't have the center speaker so can't do it the easy way (you will see what I mean after checking out the instructions).

Hey. Beat me to my own page! :) Yikes! There are some serious formatting issue on that page. Let me get 'er fixed.

Word of caution - this mod is USELESS to see behind you on the road. It is a fish-eye lens. Unless what you want to see is about 3' behind you, this isn't gonna help. Trust me on this. It is a fun toy, and my daughter loves watching the dashed lines go by, but you aren't gonna use it for real rear visibility while moving at any speed.
