Serious question

I love it when they fail to mention 0-60 times.. apparently that's VERY important esp. when the fortwo cdi takes 19-22 seconds and the Prius takes 10.5-11.5 seconds. Omg, did the Prius just win something?

I took a look at your site. Top 10 Green Large Family Cars. The Prius is the first.

Top 10 city cars? Let's see what we have here. Keep in mind the Prius has a rating of 35 on that site. The first 3 are EVs with a rating of 6 so that's a given that it's greener than a Prius but we're looking at petrol and diesel right?

• Peugeot 107 1.0 (68hp) ok.. the Prius has 110hp
• Citroën C1 1.0 i
• Toyota Aygo 1.0 (cousin to the C1)
• Daihatsu Charade.. still 1.0 litre engines.. the Prius has 1.5 litres...
• smart fortwo 50hp. Dang.. where are all the diesels??
• Fiat 500 1.3 litre - ahh, there's the FIRST diesel on the list. Still smaller than the Prius with a tiny little engine
• Mitsubishi i 0.7 litre turbo - Definitely the largest car so far and can give a Prius a run for its money, assuming it can catch up
• Perodua Kelisa - You serious?? You want us to drive a Malaysian car?

Well that's 11 already. What's next?

• Seat Ibiza at green rating = 29 (the lower the better). 1.4 TDI with auto stop (EcoMotion). Around 80ish hp
• Next up at 29 is the VW Polo BlueMotion. This should be good since it's the latest generation (and cleanest) diesel. 1.4 litre TDI, 80ish hp and oh wait.. no A/C
• MINI Cooper D. Yeah well Fifth Gear compared it to the 1.6 litre MINI Cooper. Guess which they prefer (even taking into account the diesel's mpg)
• Vauxhall Corsa - another tiny little car with a 1.0 litre engine. The Corsa is overdue for a new model
• MINI Cooper Clubman... D. Same reason as above
• Daihatsu Sirion 1.0 litre. I sense a trend here
• Kia Picanto - a narrow crude 1.1 litre vehicle from Korea
• Chevy Matiz aka Daewoo. 0.8 litre and takes 20+ secs to 60.
• Suzuki Swift 1.3 GLX. This is actually one car I MIGHT consider!! We have a winner! But it's still a 1.3 litre engine. The car is not that bad and handles well and looks great

Ok I'm tired.

from the small family car the only ones that can match the Prius is the Audi A3 Sportback with a 105ish hp 1.9 TDI and the Citroën C4 1.6 litre TDI.



SO, what have we learned here? 99% of the cars YOU claim that is better than the Prius are TINY and their engines are all SMALLER than the Prius with less hp and are ridiculously SLOW.

So why buy a 635d? the 120d is a lot better and in mpg.

That's basically what you're telling us. You want us to drive a small crude city car with basic amenities (in the case of the Polo) or pay a ridiculous price for a blue/white roundel so I can carry amputees in the back seat (no offense to any amputees) and a sack of potatoes in the cargo area.


You can't bluff us with the 1 series. We know what it is and just because we haven't experienced it yet, doesn't mean you can go around naming random cars. We know a Golf is a better car than the 1 Series and is better equipped and a whole lot cheaper.


why don't you compare CO2 emissions? Does your precious 1 series get you free into the congestion zone? Or do you have to pay that ridiculous £8 charge (It's going up soon, ain't it?) :flame:

 

UK MPG. It's about 55mpg US. (4.3L/100km). The Polo gets around 62mpg

 

Yeah cause apparently all the diesels that get >65mpg UK (that's what the Prius is rated at) is apparently faster to 60 than 10.5 seconds. He fails to mention they're all in the 15-25 second range. Now THAT is slow but of course they don't mention it. It's only mpg then wild claims that the Prius is slow.

Hell even our 2006 Jetta TDI that we can actually BUY here takes 13.3 seconds with 100hp and the PD diesel engine.

Driving Television tested a bunch of hybrids and their non-hybrid counterpart as well Zack threw in a Jetta TDI MANUAL (just to make sure it gets the most advantage).

Even then, it FAILED to beat the Prius. They netted (after 200km) around 6.5L/100km. The Prius did 5.1L/100km

 

whoa whoa whoa... so suddenly a 5 second difference btwn 10 and 15 is negligable but yet 5.5 to 10.5 is A HUGE difference.

Take a look at the new Citroën C5. The quality and workmanship is up and the design isn't too bad. The panel gaps aren't definitely up to Toyota standards (looking at the exterior pictures, you can see the wider gaps between the bumper and bodypanels) but for a French car, it's a great improvement (just ask anyone who owns a new Renault. It's the equivalent of our Dodge Caravan)

 

Didn't say it was and I agree with you on that front but neither are any of the diesels that beat the Prius.

Hell you don't buy a diesel for sport even if it is a 335d. (ok that may be a slight exception but 5,000rpm is not a lot of rpm to play with).

Interesting... does it go into effect if he loses the election? Or only if the new mayor decides to lift the new charges?

This is the definition of trolling. You aren't truely intrested in learning anything...you've made up your mind. You think it's ugly...we can't persuade you different.
You think it's slow...compared to a sports car it is. It'll go 107mph, it goes 0-60 fast enough to keep up with traffic. If you feel that's too slow for whatever racing you do then we can't change your mind about that.
There are diesels out there that get a little better fuel economy (very slightly), but none can compare, even the 'green diesels' as far as emissions. None run as quietly and none offer technologic help toward a long term solution to our oil dependence.
