Hi all. I just wanna say hi to everyone to this forum as I just picked up my brand spanking new Super White Prius yesterday. I'll be visiting often to get useful information and ask questions. As you can see, I traded in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. That car was like a total opposite of the Prius. The Evo did 21mpg at the pump which was not bad at all considering it had 315hp at the wheel... thats about 340hp at the flywheel. That car sounded, looked, and drove like a beast and I'll miss that. However the ride was very harsh and it's loud and it's a stick shift... I kinda grew out of it so it's time to consider a more useful and practical car for daily commuting. I rented a Prius from a Toyota dealer before and I love all the goodies it has and the mileage. So i went back to get one with package #5. I think the Prius is a better package comparing to the Civic hybrid. Yes it cost about 26000 to get one with fully loaded but comparing to a normal Civic or Mazda3, the Prius cost just a little more and it offers more too.. and better mileage. Yes the Prius is slow but oh well.. i think i've made the right choice. In the second day of ownership, my fiance and I are still very excitied about the new car. :D We spent hours in the car playing with the screen last night.. haha. Well this thread is getting too long so I better stop now. But I just wanna say hi to y'all. :peace:

ps: I visit the Evo forum a lot too and what members have in their signatures are horsepower number/torque number and a list of mods. In the Prius forums are all MPG numbers.. For me it's funny to see this since I switched from one extreme to another. :D

Welcome to PriusChat, 4G63! What do you mean the Prius is slow? Top speed is about 108 MPH. :D

One thing that some new Prius drivers do is back off the go pedal when they hear the Internal Combustion Engine rev high. Now, you're not supposed to do high revs for the first 600 miles during the break-in period, but when you want to accelerate, just keep your foot on the pedal. Some drivers complain that it's too easy to speed since there are no gear-shift kicks that you've grown accustomed to. You look down and the speedo says 70...

    Enjoy driving!

    Welcome to the Prius ranks!

Like you, I switched from one extreme to another (Silverado king cab pickup with a 5.8L V8 = 12-15MPG but lots of "grunt power".) I have a pretty good commute (30miles each way) and decided it was time for a change. I am a self proclaimed "geek" and love playing around with gadgets. This car was perfect for me as I hope it will be for you! Lots of menus, bluetooth for the phone (one of my favorite package features, when I drive another car, I get irritated that I have to grab my phone or an earpiece to answer it) and great mileage (47.7mpg at current.)

As for the speed, I could "only" get mine to 107, maybe if I had a good tailwind...

This forum has been an extremely valuable resource for me and there is a lot of great information available.

    Welcome and: Enjoy your car!

Hey, we've got our share of mods over here too, some of them
fairly extensive. But for most folks the car is fine as is!

Congrats for making the bold move. I guess it takes a lot of courage to do that. I still have to make that step and I know I'll be OK but I still have my Lexus V8 SC430 still sitting in the garage  while I drive the Prius 80% of the time. Scared to sell it, I guess. I don't know why. Be happy you don't have the EVO, you're one step ahead of me. Congrats again. :tea:

Welcome to the board. I too was a member of EvoM and NorcalEvo. Yes you will find that this board will have a different crowd composition and objective. I traded my 05 Evo VIII in for 2 package 2s. one magnetic gray and a silver one for my fiancee. 21 mpg was not looking so well for me either not to mention replacing tires every 15,000 miles, oil changes every 3,500, and the upcoming $1,000 brembo brake service. Im still trying to get used to the prius because it is so quiet and i just started commuting a year ago so i sometimes find myself practically half asleep on the wheel because of that missing 70mph drone on the freeway. Basically i bought a Yaris when i started commuting because i did not want to give up the evo and it has been sitting in my garage for a year thinking im gonna be buried in it when i die.:) i guess sometimes changes in lifestyle makes us do decisions we dont want (like preparing to get married.) It was a little hard to let her go esp the trade in value was so low but i still find myself smiling when i drive the prius because it was the best thing i have ever done! driving 380 miles on 24 bucks of gas is just priceless.

    enjoy the prius!

Below is my previous evo. and as it sits in the dealership where i traded it in. they are selling it for 6,000 over what they gave me. oh well... i could've privately sold it but i couldnt wait any longer anticipating a 1,600/year insurance renewal. btw i just got the renewal of my insurance and each prius only costs me 720/year to insure. I am so happy and you will too when you see your bills go down.

Thank you for the warm welcome guys! Today is our 3rd day of ownership and we love every mile and second of it. I still miss my evo tho.. i saw so many evos these couple days... but oh well i gotta move on to something practical i guess since I'll be starting my own family soon. I guess i traded it in at the right time too because my evo also needed new brakes and new O2 sensor (check engine light on) and new dash light and probably a new clutch soon. I totally agree that the evo is a blast to drive but maintainence is just pain in the as... The dealer gave me a reasonable offer for my trade. I wonder what they're gonna sell it for. I'm currently at 46.3mpg which is not bad i think. Its impressive that the Prius can do 108mph.. my fiance's suzuki cant even get past 102mph...

Makes me happy to see this. I have a BMW 335i that I'm considering trading in for a Prius. It's slightly faster than an EVO though it also has all of the features of a Prius. That said, it's really expensive and I have a kid on the way. HOV lanes are allowed to be utilized with a Prius here (though I usually carpool w/ my wife).

Right now my two concerns are that the ride will be totally "bleh", no sport handling to it, making it unfun to drive. Second concern is safety.

Welcome! A car purchase is a decision based on priorities and compromises. Those Evo's are amazing cars. Along with the amazing performance will come expensive maintenance. OTOH, the Prius hardly requires any maintenance. Just think, you will probably never have to replace the brakes on a Prius?!?!

A Prius is a fun car in its own way. I personally get excited every time I see 40+ mpg. When I get 50+ mpg tanks it is super fun.!

Concern #1 - Buy a Touring or buy the base and upgrade the suspension with TRD Sportivo parts (braces and springs/struts). A BT stiffening plate that replaces the stock plate is also available.

Concern #2 - I suppose just Youtube Prius crash test videos. It's very safe both in frontal and side impact collisions. 2006+ models have advanced front airbags with occupant detection system. Front side/ full length side curtain airbags were added as standard equipment in 2007.

haha that happened to me too. when i used to have the evo, i could barely see any evos around but when i sold it, i must have spotted 5 of them everyday. just think of all the money you will be saving while driving the prius and of course without the go-kart ride plus that freeway drone. we will miss those canyon runs and the g-forces created on the 55-65 mph freeway exit loops.

they took mine for 19,500 an 05, all stock with 23k miles. they are now selling it for 24,888. that's ok. they have to make money somehow.

Spend the money saved on TRD Sportivo shocks/springs and braces?

no more 0-60 in 4 secs and 1/4 miles in 12 sec but now i got 0-400+ miles in 12 gallon(?) and 45mpg :D. i too think its fun to achieve the best mpg on the prius.. i'm still trying to get it to 50mpg.
i got my 03 traded in for 16500 with 41k miles and all the mods... i should've taken off at least some of the mods... but we were so attracted by the new car and forgot about all that.. intensionally...
btw here are couple pics of my evo... were taken last summer..

After 10k miles and warmer weather, you get your 50+ mpg. Getting 45 mpg in cold weather is pretty good. :p
