    Hi Everyone!

Periodically, when I shift into 'D' or 'R' (most often 'R') the car *slips* back into 'N' after 5 seconds or so. (I make sure the car is stationary when I shift; I know the computer reverts to 'N' if you're moving faster than 2mph.) Sometimes I'll pull out into traffic shortly after starting and the car will suddenly slip into 'N'. Often the only way to back-up the car is to hold the shifter in 'R'. I asked the dealer-mechanic and they blew me off (no surprise) when I told them that restarting the car usually solves the problem.

I have owned my 2007 Prius for almost 1 year exactly, and this problem has occurred and persisted since I bought it new.

    Anyone else experience this? -BF

(I apologize if I've missed a thread that already addresses this... I searched but couldn't find one.)

This should be covered under your 3yr/36 mo warranty. Document it and write a letter to the dealer asking for repair so you have record of it...then go up the Toyota chain...

This is most definitely not normal. Get it fixed under warranty.

Since the dealer is blowing you off, is there a different one nearby that you could take it to?

There was a post, several weeks ago, complaining of a similar problem. It turned out that the power cord to his/her after market GPS Nav was pushing the shift level to the N position.

Alright, it looks like the initial consensus is that this is NOT normal. I've got a few other dealers in the PDX area that I'll check with. I've got no mods or after-market features, so that shouldn't be an issue. If anyone has any additional suggestions, I'll keep checking the string. Thanks everyone for your posts.
