I didn't know. That's good news. Next milestone: when one of the early owners puts his up on eBay. I bet it goes for at least $250,000 to some multi-millionaire who doesn't want to wait in line for the list.

 

Yeah, #001 was delivered already. The rest of the "Production" begins March 17, but officially, a production Tesla roadster now exists. That at least means they win this little battle.

No telling what these guys are going to use for a controller or BMS. You don't get to just build a cool-looking car, stuff batteries and huge motors in it, unfortunately. On paper it sounds great. But the rubber hasn't quite met the pavement.

 

I'm rooting for Tesla. I want them to succeed. And it's really not a competition between Tesla and Ronaele because the latter is a Mustang conversion car, not a production car.

BUT, I don't consider one hand-built car delivered to the CEO to be the first real production car. When they really start rolling off the line I'll consider they've "won" 5th place (?) 6th place (?) 17th place (?) for a modern production electric car. (After the EV-1, the Rav4EV, The Xebra, etc., etc... how many are there already?)

I'm not too worried about the BMS for these guys. I presume the BMS comes from the battery manufacturer. Mine did. And the charger. All a single package. But I still want to know if these guys are really going to start building street-legal cars for sale to the public any time soon, as they claim, or if this is just another wild claim by some folks who have nothing more than an idea.

 

Their web site says if you phone them they'll return your call within 24 hours. Their answering machine says, "I'll call you back immediately." They have not yet called me back.

But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I bet they've got an awful lot of calls coming in, and most of them are probably not serious buyers. When they were just building high-performance Mustangs they could probably return all their calls. But with virtually no options for anyone who wants a real electric car, they're probably getting flooded with calls now. They may even have more firm orders with deposits than they can fill in a year.

 

I know technology is slow sometimes but IT'S ABOUT TIME THE ECO GEEKS PULLED THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR POOTY HOLES.

I remember when I first heard about an electric car and having to plug it in, I thought why not put a stator and rotor on each wheel to creat electricity to charge the battery? I was glad to see Toyota figured that part out with their breaking system.

Finally the Eco Geek and the Motor Head have come together. People who love cars want cars that are cars, not something wimpy. You all know it, if GM made an EV based on the Corvette and cost the same they couldn't keep in the showroom. But not even that big of name. I've been thinking about taking the Prius drive train and transplanting it into a Pontiac Fiero platform. Holy Crap how cool would that be?

I love that they've finally gotten into the muscle car sector on a scale worth paying attention to. Full production EV 150 - 200mph is awsome. Now for the price to drop a little.

True that, win the lotto, buy a 200mph EV and watch people stop laughing and scoffing.

If you look at the DIY_Ranger it's pretty cool to see how they did it keeping original equipement working.

 

Because putting a stator and rotor on each wheel is expensive (4 separate systems to maintain, cabling, etc.) Plus the amount of power the Prius regenerates by braking (I 'break' for those who have trouble with homonyms) is little in the scheme of things regarding power used. I mainly see it as a benefit to saving wear and tear on the pads and such.

I doubt it. The amount of energy contained in even the most modern of batteries available in miniscule compared to the amount of gas fuel contained in a standard Corvette tank. Drive a Corvette as it is designed and you would get maybe 10 to 20 minutes of driving with batteries. Plus with an EV you are 'chained' to always finding you're way back home to charge (if you make it). Forget about a road trip...

Uh Huh... Sounds like a weekend project to me...

Again, take it to the track and drive it 200 MPH. I wonder if you would make it even two laps before the battery goes kaput.

Please tell me who's got a full production 150 mph EV??? The first production EV since GM crushed the EV-1 that's a real car will be the Tesla Roadster, with a top speed of 120 mph (downgraded from 130).

Ronaele will be converting Mustangs one at a time. Hardly a "full production" car. And while they are promising the car "real soon now," more companies than you can shake a a stick at have been promising EVs "real soon now" for years! The closest thing to a production car before the Tesla is the eBox from AC Propulsion, but that's not a production car because they, too, are performing conversion (on the Scion xB one car at a time, and are not interested in selling outside of California, maybe because their volume is so low that CA is already a bigger market than they can serve.

I don't like pickup trucks. I still might consider it if it was actually available. When did you say that would be? "Real soon now"?
