GM Orders More Than 100,000 Hitachi Batteries For Hybrids

    GM Orders More Than 100,000 Hitachi Batteries For Hybrids

    SAN FRANCISCO -- Hitachi Ltd. said Tuesday that General Motors Co. has ordered lithium-ion battery systems for use in more than 100,000 hybrid-electric vehicles. Financial details were not disclosed. Hitachi said GM plans to launch the vehicles in North America in 2010.

    So much for the US-based company - A123systems which seemed to be the early frontrunner.

    Well, GM left all the EV1 component manufacturers high & dry, when they abruptly halted production on it (sued CARB so they COULD halt production) ... which was the best car they've ever made ... and THAT halt pulled the rug out from under all of them, though the component manufacturers obviously were told they'd be making a bunch of THOSE EV's . . . so you'd think GM parts suppliers would eventually learn.
