If this topic was already covered in the past, I apologize in advance for the repost.

I've successfully listened to my Ipod by connecting it from headphone out to the auxillary port via an auxillary cable. Then suddenly, since last week, the quality of sound worsened considerably. The volume is not loud enough anymore, and the songs sound distorted. Specifically, the vocals on all tracks sound diminished.

The sound improves back to normal when I listen to the Ipod while it is charging via the 12V built-in charger inside the car, located underneath my right hand-rest.

Can someone please diagnose what's going on here? Is headphone out to the Prius' aux-in generally a bad idea?

Try making sure you on your iPod settings that you turn off both Sound Check and the EQ. Also you may have recently adjusted the volume limiter. It seems like you really have to turn the volume iPod volume up to about 90 % for the best sound. Oh and also don't forget to make sure that your aux cable is fully plugged in to both the ipod and the Aux input.

Can't answer the first question. But headphone out to the Prius' aux-in is not a bad idea -- that's what the aux-in is supposed to be for: connecting an audio device through its headphone out (or preferably its line out if it has one).
