Yes, that would probably do it. I wasn't thinking that dark.

    Let's see....

Lowest approval rating of all time. Check.

Trillions of dollars spent on unwinnable war. Check.

Suspension of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution. Check.

Cabinet members convicted and pardoned. Check.

    Geneva Convention violations. Check.

Yep, I think you're right, a nuclear attack could really seal it up for him.

I repeat: No matter what he does, someone could come along and do worse. The only way he could assure that no president would ever be worse would be to do something that puts an end to civilization so that there are no more leaders. Nuclear war, for example. Let's not even think about that.

    Too late.

It would certainly ensure that the Democrats wouldn't be taking back the White House.

But we've already been thinking about it for at least two posts! Hell, the Cheney/Bush administration is the reason I started having nuclear disaster nightmares off and on again these past few years. Those bastards. :mmph:

Until it's too expensive for Starbucks to have their little wooden coffee stirrers made in China and shipped all the way over here, energy costs are WAY too low.

    ------------------

Oh, and don't forget...under this administration, we're paying $120million ---flyaway cost for the airplane only, not counting the development program costs--- for a single F22 fighter aircraft.

What makes that figure even more unbelievable is that, over the last 35 years, our fighter planes have shot down, on average, 1.4 enemy aircraft YEARLY.

What's the cost of each splash? I don't even want to go there.

To be fair, it's not only Bush's fault, but the current administration is also still in favor of an even more expensive fighter (the F35) that can take off vertically, in addition to everything else---even though, to date, that's a capability which we rarely use.

Getting off the subject a bit, what the armed forces REALLY need is a good .30 caliber rifle and some more body armor. Where's the money for THAT, and why are our ground troops ill equipped as we spend literally billions on aircraft which clearly have no adversary, and likely won't for their entire operational lifetime?

That's another crime of the Bush administration, which even the Hawks amongst us don't seem to focus upon. I'm not military and don't come from a military family, but I find it difficult to believe that so many still feel he's doing what's best for our soldiers (not bringing them home notwithstanding).

What was the famous (or infamous) quote of Rummy... "As you know, you go to war with the Army you have. They're not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time." (Citation: washingtonpost.com: Rumsfeld Gets Earful From Troops ) This was in response to complaints about not having adequate armor for the Humvees and trucks that were making the run into Iraq. Especially since the timing of when to go into Iraq was entirely up to Mr. mentally below average. Only 10 more months (and a few days) until we are rid of him.

In the meantime 16 school librarians will not have positions next year due to budget cuts. They're also closing the central Instructional Media Center and cutting 8 jobs there.

Also 416 elementary teachers, 9 GATE Seminar teachers, 96 secondary English teachers, 42 secondary History teachers, 17 secondary Spanish teachers.

They're also cutting nurses, vocational rehabilitation teachers, counselors and special education paraeducators.

In total: 920 positions. Only 100 of them are administrators.

Yeah. What we couldn't do with $120 million.

Educated kids wouldn't vote for the creeps who run our country. Therefore, funding education is subversive.

$4.50/gallon by Summer '08 is definitely in the realm of the possible in the S.F. Bay Area. $4.75 - $5.00 by year end '08 is doubtful. But $4.75 - $5.00 by Summer, '09 is quite possible (again, in the S.F. Bay Area).

Yeah, I think $5 gas is on the schedule for 2009, but its possible we could see $4.50 somewhere in Calif this year.

Malorn says $2.50 by April. I don't think we will ever see $2.50 again in Calif. Ever.

I really wonder what in the hell has happened here in this country. We have enough consumer power to stop this, but we don't. We just pump it in. I have read where some stores in South Florida, and in California, are closing in the middle of the day, because they can't get a staff to come in. They can't afford the gas to come to work.

Uhhhh! I've been paying $3.60 a gallon for Regular since February in CA - we are getting ripped off and the only solution for us is a Prius, motorcycle, or a skateboard!

TJandGENESIS, what can we as consumers do?

are you talking about boycotting gas? i'm sick and tired of paying such high prices, as i think cali is one of the highest (if not highest).

You can't completely boycott gas unless you can either walk or ride a bicycle everywhere: work, shopping, etc.

If you take public transportation, you're still using gas. Unless your local public transportation uses some other means of fuel.

Back when I was in my 20's (a long time ago) I lived in a house 1 1/2 blocks from my work which I shared with two other coworkers. It was great - I walked to work in 5 min, walked home for lunch and left my car parked in the garage all week.

My dumbsh*t roommate drove his Pontiac Firebird the 1 1/2 blocks to work everyday and often drove home for lunch too. :mmph:

In the S.F. Bay Area, there is an increasing use of alternatives such as biodiesel and LNG. Biodiesel is not a complete replacement, but it is a reduction in usage. LNG is still a carbon energy source; at least it is not directly tied to the price structure (and the gouging that is tolerated/expected?) with gasoline and diesel.

While neither biodiesel or LNG are 'boycotting' petroleum, it is a way to reduce the use of petroleum & refined distillates. Prices do drop when inventories rise.

If you want to feel more ripped off, go a few miles west to the Bay Area. I just filled up and paid $3.79/gallon for Chevron unleaded Regular (87 octane). $4.00/gallon is only 21 cents more to go. I bet $4.00/gallon threshold gets exceeded before Memorial Day.

    Malorn!

Where is Malorn? I think he is the only one who would bet against that.
