 Read my post again. I did not say to boycott anything. I said boycotts don't work.

Couldn't be bothered? If the driver was like me, he likely went out of his way to go to the more expensive station. I don't go too far out of my way, but I do seek out the most expensive station when there are choices. Always buying from the cheapest creates more competition, and lower prices. We all lose in that scenario.

Man, if I'd had any respect for Malorn before this thread, it would now be decreased. Not because of his snottty "I know more than you do" OP that has been proven wrong - but because he can't even swing by and make up some excuse for his ignorance.

Oops. I did manage to use the wrong word. Sorry! The message is the same though...

    I'll try again:

Protest what?! A company that is supplying what we so desperately want to buy... at just about any cost?

Interesting comments. No, I didn't mean we invade the basturds's country- I meant way back in '74 when they were thinking of forming OPEC that was the time to snuff that idea. The oil may be in their ground, but they would never have gotten any of it out of the ground if the US didn't find it and set up everything for them. Now they repay us back by B-Fu----g us regular folks. I'm not fond of Arabs to begin with. They're not to be trusted, period.

Daniel, I agreee with many of your points and I hope & pray an Independant gets in the White house next year. The 3 stooges that in line for the job show me NOTHING. None of them will change anything for me or any other people in the lower-middle middle class. McCain should have been left in "Nam, Clinton is a liberal lawyer, and Obama will never help anyone except blacks.

That is 1 sorry bunch all around. This country is truly Fu---d with any 1 of those 3.

Walker: The world was hungry for oil back then, and the U.S. was not the only country that wanted it. If American oil companies (greedy for profit) had not provided the technology and the expertise, another country would have. France, China, the U.S.S.R., all would have been happy to go in and develop and extract that oil.

You say "we" never should have developed that oil. But it wasn't "us" who did it, it was the oil companies, and they didn't do it for the good of the country, they did it for profit. And they are still doing what they figure will make them a profit, and it does. And as Darell says, as long as YOU (and the rest of us) continue to burn gasoline and fuel oil, they are laughing all the way to the bank. It's not too expensive (for them) until YOU stop burning it.

Or, as Natalie keeps saying so colorfully: Energy is too cheap as long as Starbucks can afford to import wooden stirring sticks from China.

Tell me what state you live in, and I'll find you the name of your nearest Zap dealer.

And I disagree with you about Barak Obama.

OK, I did mean the oil cos. when I said "We". I am doing everything that I can to use as little oil-gas as possible. I made a reference some time ago about a "Sea Of Monsters" in this area-(SUV's & Huge pick up trucks with huge engines) and the anger that was directed at me was almost funny. How dare I tell the gas guzzling SUV/Pickup crowd NOT to burn fossil fuels? They say it's their right to own the ridiculous things & waste far more of our limited resources on pleasure.

I have been to a Starbucks once- my wife had a free coupon. What is a Zap dealer?

Obama? You may disagree, but a black will not care about any whites. I am white and very concerned about who gets in the White house. Like I said- 3 piss poor choices. All are self serving liars just like all the other liars we've had as long as I can remember.

My major concern is someone taking care of the dwindling middle class. Our jobs are going to china & India thanks to rich people & the large corps. I came from a blue collar background and I was the 1st person in my household to earn 3 college degrees. I believe that the very least a man is entitled to is gainful employment- the right to work.

I would love to have a FT job, but nobody is offering one to me even though I've done nothing to be rejected unless my sex, skin color, and age mean so much to employers.

    Good for you!

Nobody on this board has ever gotten angry at you for criticizing people who drive SUVs. Either you misinterpreted the responses, or the anger (or criticism) was in reference to some other statement you made.

A Zap dealer is a person/company that sells Zap electric cars, such as my Zap Xebra 100% electric 4-passenger sedan which uses no gas at all and is powered entirely by 100% renewable energy from the Bonneville dam, plus a little bit of wind power.

This is a flat-out racist statement! It is a filthy, vile, and disgusting statement. Racism is one of the most evil and disgusting and intolerable aspects of our culture.

You really think that you can know what a man cares about, or who he is concerned about, merely by looking at the shade of his skin? Nobody but a complete idiot and donkey thinks he can know what a person cares about merely by looking at their skin color.

I trust you made that statement without thinking and that it does not reflect your true sentiments, because I am sure you are not a complete idiot and donkey, but that rash statement of yours above really does require a retraction if you do not wish to be regarded as lower than d berman on this chat board.

    Back to the thread...

Some people think that "peak oil" has occurred, but if you read this right it seems that as I have said before, the oil companies are controlling inventories and production to keep the prices inflated. Remember, the SAME people that engineered the energy "crisis" in California was the ones that set up Bush's energy policies behind closed doors just after he took office. I'm sure that since oil is not a renewable resource, these oil companies will have to become "energy companies" instead. I'm sure that they will seek to control whatever energy sources we eventually will have to resort to in order to continue their survival. You will NOT see a drop of $.50/gal by spring, and you'll be lucky to see $3/gal gas ever again as soon as it reaches $4/gal. Just MY $.02!

So by this logic if I come over your place and fix your broken garage door then because I helped you get the car out of the garage I have an inalienable right to use the car?
It would probably be a very good idea to keep your racist comments to yourself too.

You'd not only have the right to use his car; you'd have the right to take it and keep it. According to his logic. After all, if we want it, and we need it, what right do they have to charge what the market will bear?

The really depressing thing is that a lot of people think the way he does.

Yeah, I edited it down, based on that sentence, I see that this person is:

A: A bad speller; just to add insult to injury.
    B: A racist.
C: A ignorant person who believes that McCain, a P.O.W., should have been left in the 'Nam, which, no matter what you think of his politics now, is reprehensible to wish a person to maintain status as a P.O.W.
D: This person also distrusts liberals, and lawyers.
E: Also, this person reinforces his/her racial status with the comment about Obama and black people.

My point here, is that there are more of this type of person out there, who think along those lines.

    Which is sad. IMHO.

We are currently on a road trip; Ballmer, Merlin to Brooklyn, NY.

    Gas prices we've seen:
    Ballmer, MD - $3.24
    NJ Turnpike - $3.06
    Atlantic Highlands, NJ - $2:93
    Brooklyn, NY - $3.35

Heading south I will see price fall from $3.35 to $2:93, delta = $0.42, that's pretty close to $0.50.

OMG! Malorn may yet be right!!!! :target:

Take a trip out to the West Coast. You will see it go up more than $0.50.

Gasoline inventories are still high historically speaking, and refineries aren't even at full capacity. But with the raw petroleum prices so high, it's just not looking good for our SUV-driving neighbors.

Here's a chart showing year-over-year prices I've paid for gas, primarily in the Chicago area (NW suburbs, the city is considerably higher). I just filled in March. It's a little busy for the earlier years, but notice the start to this year, in brown:

And in a year-after-year chart, with a polynomial-based trend line added:

    edit:
Well, this is weird. I could see this at home using my Safari browser, but at work with Firefox it shows nothing, so I pull up IE6 and it shows broken links. They aren't broken, but they are PDFs, so maybe the BBS or browser doesn't know how to display them? I'll fix them tonight (translate to an image file).

$3.51 at my corner station. It's lower than most in So. Cal.
