Hi. iPod confusion here...We're about to buy a Prius Touring - pkg 3 w/custom install leather (we don't want the navigation system and the dealer leather is higher quality and better install w/arm rest etc. included)

Re: iPod, we understand that any aftermarket purchased product to integrate the controls on the steering wheel still will NOT allow playlist browsing, only individual song forwarding or playing once you select a playlist via handling your iPod directly. What are we missing? This doesn't sound so fully integrated.

We love our iPod and are major Apple computer people. Is there really no way to fully integrate the system with the car's stereo set up and steering wheel controls?

If there is, has anyone negotiated installation thru the dealer as an added freebie? I don't know if they will install something that is third party. THANKS anyone for info... days surfing on this topic, and very different answers that don't mesh... I figure this site is the best source for the real info. I appreciate the help so much!

You might want to look again. I have one of the VIAS units, and I can definitely switch between playlists without having to handle the iPod. The unit is limited to playlists, so you can't, for instance, decide you want to listen to a particular album. It's been plenty for me.

I *think* the newer DICE units do more complete integration, and I'll let someone who actually has one pipe in on that.

I have a 2007 Touring standard with a DICE Silverline that I purchased in February. I can definitely browse playlists, artists, albums and tracks, all from the steering wheel. Search around for a few DICE threads as there have been some problems with them. Mine works great with a few annoyances, such as not stopping the Ipod when turning off the car (I have to turn off the radio prior to turning the car off).

Hi and thanks for the input on how these units are working out in the real world.

I bought one from DICE and it's here now... just waiting about 10 more days for the car to arrive... then off to the seat people, then off to the 3M clear coat and window tint people... then home for the shark and DICE install. I can't wait!

GREAT to know about that issue with the iPod not turning off unless you turn off the stereo first! I appreciate that info... don't want to run down the battery...

I looked at all the posts I could find, and it appears that the newer unit is not having problems with the 2008 cars. We'll see soon enough!

The new Vais software will allow browsing by artist and album, in addition to playlists, which it does now.

You can advance by song from the steering wheel, or change playlist from the display. The tuning knob doesn't do anything, which is a shame; it would be a great way to quickly fly thru playlists, if only it worked.

I haven't seen the new firmware yet (as of 4/13/08), but am hoping it'll be available soon.
