    Hi!

    I pulled out the serviceplug (model 2008) to get acess to the HV-Battery for measering purposes. Unfortunately the car noticed this and now the Hybrid System is not starting. It shows the red "!" in the triangel. Must i delete some error codes in the memory or is there a easier way to reset the system.
    (prepearing for PHEV conversion)

    Thank you in advance for your answer, its urgent!

    Mike

    I assume you tried starting multiple times? Some error codes require a few reboots to clear. I also assume you correctly reinstalled the service plug.

    Hi!
    Thank you very much for your answer!
    I tryed starting the hybrid system about three times.
    i have no diagnistic tool (ODB2)
    Waht do you mean with reboot?

    Do i need a odb2-tool?

    Turning the car on/off three or more times is what he means by rebooting the system.

    ~~~~~~
    Since he's asking about a reboot and ODB2 tool I'd assume the problem has not gone away.
    The thanks was for the quick anser!
    I tryed exact 4 times .. no change in the behavior.
    I can switch to neutral but not to "d"
    the red "!" with the triangle lights near the speed-meeter display and a red car with a "!" lights up on the lcd screen.
    ok
    did you check if the HV plug is really put back in correctly
    it needs to click or something
    i pluged it back in and slided the handle up .. its realy fixed in place.
    the system was off when i worked with te plug.
    is this the normal behavior,that the error sign lights up whem the hv plug is removed?
    isn't the 12v supposed to be disconnected before you take off the hv battery?
    i remember hearing a situation like this before and it ended up costing the owner.
    i would check over everything a few more times.
    Hi Mike,
    It is normal behavior for the Prius to log a DTC if you remove the orange traction battery service plug grip, then try to start the car.
    I suggest that you disconnect the negative 12V battery terminal for several minutes. While that is disconnected, make sure that the service plug is correctly reinstalled, although it sounds like it is since you slid the handle up. Then reconnect the 12V battery and see if your problems are solved.
    The Prius repair manual warns of potential damage to the hybrid vehicle ECU if you try to start the car while the traction battery service plug grip is removed (p. 21-54, 2005 repair manual). Hopefully this did not happen here.
    It sounds like you do not have access to the Toyota repair manual. If so, it would be a really good idea to obtain & read the relevant portions of the manual, if you are going to be messing with the traction battery.
    Good luck...
    O.k. i disconected the 12V Bat.
    After 5 minutes i reconected the battery ... same fault. :-(
    hmmmm?
    O.K. i found the fault. i forgot the "final click-down"
    in fact is what my fault. let me describe the situation. i found the following lines in the net:
    2nd-gen handle is a little special
    Pull straight up, then swing out and down 90 deg
    Reverse to re-insert
    Handle *must* do that final click-down!
    Part of a low-voltage interlock loop
    after the "final click-down" the hybrid system goes in ready mode while the warning lights stay on. i drove e round the block to check the car behavior. --> everything o.k.
    after two aditional power off/on cycles the lights were gone.
    Puhhh, this was a little shocking :)
    No i can go on discovering my car :)
    Thank you al for your quick responding.
    its 1:00 AM, i go to sleep , bye!
    I agree with richard! If anybody untrained tryed to play with over 200V DC, he may burn his fingers or worse.
    I followed the conversion strategys for about three years. It tooks ths time before i decides to bye a new car. I hoped the PHEV-Prius will be on the market at about end 2008. As i noticed, that this will not come true, i bought the "old fashiond" pirus 2008 (about 4 weeks ago).
    I am an electronic engineer and of course i worked mostly on low-voltage systems like communcation projects. But i know about the hv savety-measures.
    And I finaly think, that forget to "click" a second savety-fixation can happen to everyone ;-)
    At the beginning there will no much things to take photos, but when i start to apply extra batterys i will send a documentation.
    Manny greetings, Mike
    i think burning your fingers is a little bit of a understatement with high voltage DC:D
    if you touch it you Will be unable to control you muscles a little bit like with a taser.
    The DC voltage Will control you muscles and you Will be killed when you can not let lose.
    lucky that you found the problem
    after all it was the HV plug;)
    i also am looking into the plugin conversion and wish you al the luck to!:cool:
    Yes, i forgot to put a smily after "burn your finger"
    A good description of the danger is readable at Electric shock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    In the past i earnd a lot of laughing using HV gloves while working on 230V AC systems, well known they were powerd of :)
    But i knew about cases where technicians got a strike (dont know if "strike is the right term) when working on "powerd of systems" for an our or two and anoter technician switched on the supply accidently.
    Now i am looking for a cheap way to import Valece Batterys via ship to Europe/Austria. I know some people who need such batterys for similar applications. May be we can rent a part of a container.
    The Dollar is in a very good value compared to the Euro at the moment, so we can save a lot of money ;-) this time.
    At the moment i am develloping (of course its not a big thing ;-) ) a HV DC-charger for the first generation of experimental batterys. I think i will use cheap lead-acid batts (used UPS-bats. or similar).
    I intend to swich the auxilary bats. temporarily in parallel to the original HV bat every time the voltage dropps under the level of about 85%-90% (on MFD screen). So the SOC is a little higher and teh hybrid system is mixxing E-Power to the ICE ore going electric only while driving at low speeds. To measure this voltagerange i started to get access to the HV battery yesterday. May be i find some Diodes (40 Amp and use two in parallel) to hold the voltage up. When regaining energy during braking this energy is going only to the original bat. because of the unability (is "unability" a correct word ? :) ) of the lead acid bats. to capture high current peeks.
    In the first step, i do not intend to manipuilate the cellreading of the original bat. to simulate a higher SOC.
    I keep you informed about my project.
    manny greetings, Mike
    Another idea to begin "softly" moding the prius :)
    when coming home you run teh HV battery near to low (on mfd) and than put the car on a charger with about one Amp for 8 hours. Its strongly recomended to watch the voltage to shut off charging when delta peak ocours. Next morning you have a gently and savely chareged realy full battery (more then the 100% on mfd) and can use some extra kilomerters on EV mode or support the ice with electrical energy to consume less petrol.
    NIMH Batterys are quick charable to about 80%. Thats why the onboard system is using only up to 80%. But when you charge very gently, while wathing the temperature and the voltage you can use the nominal capacity. (I do not intend to manipulate the cell reading to get more discharging.)
    O.k. this is not much, but for short trips (10 km) you can reduce your gas consumption to 75% or more and impress the pedestrians with a silence glide throu your town :) its so nice :)
    Dont forget to supply the batteryfan external while charging whith a auxilary charger to hold the celltemperature low.
    I am allso looking for a second original battery for paralleling. i hope i can find one on a junkyard or in ebay.
    it only go's up to 80% and not below 40% to keep the battery in optimum condition
    i think charging it to 100% will get you a nice red signal on the dash again!
