Not sure why you think it's a joke. Many of us have it and make good use of it. For starters, in situations I described previously. Additionally, it's handy to force ICE shutdown before the car is fully warmed up; the ICE won't shut down on its own until ICE temp is at least 70C. It's an inexpensive mod, not too difficult to install, and you've got the hard part done.

There are at least two downsides. First is the possibility of using it wrong by forcing sustained EV propulsion, as I suggested earlier, and hurting fuel economy. Next, if the car is still under warranty, is the possible denial of warranty claims related to battery failure. Those whose car is still under warranty should carefully consider this before installing it.

But it's no joke. I've had mine for about a year, and I have no regrets.

Indeed. I use mine quite a bit for little things and love having it. I did the efusco install.

The Prius is NOT an electric car. The batteries are not designed for heavy capacity because a patent troll has the patents for the NIMH high capacity batteries.
See the movie called "Who killed the electric car".

Considering the FACT that having the engine CHARGE the batteries means that you WASTE gas through conversion losses when compared with the normal hybrid method.

    Think about it,
Chemical (gas) -> Mechanical (engine combustion) -> Electrical (motor/generator) -> Chemical (battery) -> Electrical (From battery) -> Mechanical (motor/generator) is a LOT more losses then just
Chemical (gas) -> Mechanical (engine combustion).
