Just picked up our new '08 Prius yesterday, after trading in the 2000 Land Rover Discovery II. Yes, we traveled quite a distance with THAT exchange . . . :p

I'm loving the car so far, and I'm sure we'll be noticing a substantial change in our gas bill soon.

    Here she is:

Welcome to the club. You are going to miss all of those trips to the dealer.

And to the gas station. I am curious, what percentage of the original 'new' price of the Land Rover (assuming you purchased it new) were you able to retrieve in trade?

I purchased it used in 2005, and traded it in for a bit less than 1/3 of the purchase price then. I'm figuring about 1/10 the original price. They DO NOT hold their value. I loved that truck, and actually had very little trouble with it. But at around 10 mpg around town, a 25 gallon tank, and the likelihood of looming repairs, it was definitely time to move on!

Consumer Reports recently had a list of the best value cars to own.
Prius was top of the list, I believe, and the Land Rover was near the bottom!

You are going to be SO INCREDIBLY HAPPY you made this switch! :p

Oh, I'm happy! I'm still going to miss my Rover, though. Something tells me the Prius isn't going to get me up the muddy mountain back roads to those prime camping spots, or carry all of my gear.

I haven't done that in several years anyway, so that excuse wears thin. The retained value, cheaper operating cost, and greenitude make it easier, though!

That's what hire cars are for. nothing is as quick off road than a hired 4x4.

    Congratulations.

I love the colour, never seen that colour before!!

Welcome to PC and enjoy your new car. Get used to not visiting the gas station as often as before:)

    Good point!

I hadn't seen it before, either. I'm thinking it might be new for '08. They're finally realizing that hybrids don't all have to be gray.

    That's one of the reasons I didn't go with the Civic . . .
