Two times over the past month, my husband and I have gotten into our Pruis and realized as we were trying to decide which radio station to listen to, that all of our radio presets were on their default stations (most of which are static). Both FM1 and FM2 were on their defaults and our presets were gone. Both times, my husband who had been the last one to drive the Prius, said that the day before, the stereo had made a loud popping noise. Its not too difficult to just reset the stations, but we are a little concerned as the car has only had 3 months of use and is having stereo issues already. Has anyone else had a similar problem and is there any hope that the dealership will be able to fix it since it is highly unlikely that we can recreate the problem when we take it in?

    Loose wire? Shorted wire?

Are you still under warranty? If so, bring it to the dealer.

If not, you might want to take the dash apart and look for loose connections behind the head unit.

If you are losing the presets, then you are probably losing either a ground or a 12v power supply.

    That is my guess.

    Agreed.
Could this even be dirty battery terminals, when the car boots up the power draw drops the voltage enough to delete presets?

I 'third' the opinion of checking the battery terminals.
Clean them up, and tighten them. Also take the chance to clean the battery
top surface to reduce leakage current.

i am having this same problem . i do not know how to recreate it to keep the dealer happy. i have an appointment this friday to have it checked out, this happens while the car is in ready and running, so it shouldnt be the battery terminals, and this
has happened at least 5 times in the year ive owned the car

i think it has something to do with the cd player running and maybe loud volume

i think the dealership is going to charge me some money for diagnosis, i think im gunna try fighting that based on the logs the mfd keeps, i found the service manual
page that tells you what those errors mean
