Being a sports fan, I used to collect malapropisms (and mixed metaphors, intentional jokes, and, I suspect, misquotes) that I found in sports reporting. Here are some:

Yeah, these are untreaded waters for me.

    — Bill Cowher

We see the light at the end of the rainbow, so to speak.

    -- Jerome Bettis

Thank goodness we were ahead when they came back.

-- Former University of New Mexico basketball coach Dave Bliss

I've always been a live by the edge of your pants kind of a guy.

    -- Howie Long

“. . . . once we get our nooks and crannies ironed outâ€

    – Rasheed Wallace

"It's a chess match out there, and he's always ahead of the eight ball."

-- Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker Larry Foote on Defensive Coordinator Dick Lebeau

    My uncle:
"Oh man, we're sunk higher than a kite."

A college professor talking about a line between Greek gods and men:
"Dionysius blew that line right out of the water."

A co-worker's e-mail to the group referred to the "code suppository" instead of "code repository".

My ex-brother-in-law, trying to make small-talk after an argument, forgot the correct English word for bangs (he's native Spanish speaker):
"I see you trimmed your fangs."

Then there's the old standby "we're going to turn this team around 360 degrees"

...so what did he wrap up in the middle of the night, that's how I thought the lyrics went, altho it kind of surprised me...

I used to work with one of the original Wang dedicated word processing computers (YES, it WAS a VERY long time ago). It had automatic spell correction. It kept changing NASA to nausea...

    Other ones I've heard before:

"A pigment of my imagination" (figment)

    "To wet your appetite" (whet)

    "He's a wolf in cheap clothing" (sheep's)

"Michelangelo painted the sixteenth chapel" (Sistine Chapel)

"He has extra century perception" (extra sensory)

Another one from the Bushwhacker: "We cannot let terrorists and rogue nations hold this nation hostile or hold our allies hostile." GWB
