Chevy Volt: On Video

I really don't know what more people want from GM. They're cranking out press releases as fast as they can!

 

No way! One of those stickers would look good in my EV1 collection of goodies from 12 years ago! If I tell people that my next car will be electric... what should I do with the one I'm driving now??

 

The suit that stopped the ZEV mandate in 2003 was started by GM and backed by the federal gov't. Toyota then piled on, but they certainly didn't go through the effort that GM did.

What new technology is that? I drove a GM all-electric car with 150 miles of range... ten years ago. They took that car back, telling me that 150 miles of range was not enough for the American motoring public. They wanted to make sure that I didn't get hurt. Wouldn't let me extend the lease, and wouldn't let me buy it. I TOTALLY want plug-in hybrids on the road. If GM can do it, great. To fulfil their promises, they have to invent some new stuff, and lose money on each unit.. so that's kind of a downer. All they need to do to fix the problem is lower performance or increase cost.

GM and Firestone removed all our our *electric* off-street rails where I grew up in NorCal. We had three rail lines, all with their own right of way. They were replaced with gasoline buses on Bridgestone tires - and they sucked... and everybody bought a second car to commute to work in. Welcome to today.

 

I believe Toyota may have supported the end of the ZEV legislation as a good business decision. If there were affordable practical electric cars on the market today what impact would it have on Prius sales?

Darell your (and I DO enjoy it) rant forgot to include that GM REFUSED to let EV1 customers sign a WAIVER ... exculpating GM from any/all liability if they'd sell the cars outright. At least Ford accepted the waivers from THEIR lease customers. Anyway, that pretty much proves up the authenticity/phonyness of GM's 'fear' excuse.

very cool, i personally think the body style on the volt is awesome. very hi tech looking. Just hope GM can produce on time. Although i have some disdain towards GM since i watched who killed the electric car
