Smokers don't realize that as much as they try to eat mints & brush their teeth to remove the odor, the smell is in their clothes, in their furniture & curtains, and is in their children's clothing.

I drove a 7-year old child of a friend in my Jeep once. It smelled like a bar for a week afterwards. THAT'S the real tragedy -- the kids.:(

I'm in the minority on these forums, for i Smoke. I did notice one other poster who was a smoker. It's a nasty habit, and now for the most part smokers are 2nd rate citizen's in the eye's of many non smokers. Not to be harsh but it's true, I do hate people who just stomp out or throw there butt's out the window..I for one do not do this, and try to respect people around me, by asking if the smoke bothers them or if it would be ok to light up near them if in that type of situation. We have law's here with fines of up to 200$ for people tossing smokes out the window, not sure if the police enforce them though.

I do leave my window cracked while driving, i just can't have them all rolled up. MY dad does that, he drives around with no windows down, not for a respect for other motorist..but just that's the way he is! old school I guess, i asked him about that, he said we never rolled are windows down back in the 60's rofl.

IMO that makes you a first rate citizen.:first:

I don't judge you b/c you smoke, but I may judge your behavior as a smoker. I drink alcohol...I don't think people should judge me for that. But if I drank and threw my beer cans in the street that would be bad...and some beer drinkers do that...but it's not the majority whereas it seems to be that the majority of smokers do throw their butts in the street. I don't infuse part of my alcohol in the people around me when I'm drinking...whereas when smokers light up around non-smokers they're forced to breath their malodorous carcinogens.

Drinkers who drive are, IMO, second-rate citizens...or third or 4th rate b/c they risk the near-term death of themselves or others. Again, it's the consideration for others and the behavior that should be judged.

If you give me due consideration you are a first rate individual. Unfortunately you do start off, many times, with the presumption of guilt b/c so many of your fellow smokers have created a pervasive impression that makes us likely to stereotype smokers.

I hate it when people throw out their cigarettes I would be glad the cig hit my windshield and not my hood. From what I have experienced in my 2 1/2 week old Prius the cig would have dented my hood severely and scratched the paint to the primer.

I-75 South closed near Sarasota Fl due to a brush fire. Wanna bet someone threw a lit cigarette out the window. As the second smoker in this forum I believe in consideration for the non-smoker. Cleaned up 5 cigarettes on the ground in the smoke pit at work. Only smoke in the smoking section at the amusement parks (yeah, I know it's still a public area) but I really get ticked when I see someone light up in non-smoking areas of the park.

I agree it's a nasty dirty habit and that I smell bad. Quit once for 5 years and SERIOUSLY regret picking it up again. Truly addictive nasty dirty habit.

Good grief, I never actually stated that I would shoot, threaten to shoot, or kill anyone who threw my lit cig butt back at me, just alluded to that possibility. I notice though that violence certainly IS ok for everyone else to use on the horrible threat that I pose by tossing my butts out the window. Holy hell there was sanctioned biker violence, orbiting lasers, and all kinds of mean nasty things suggested. I guess that's fine. OBTW, I am smoking now, and oh my god I just tossed my butt on the ground, LIT!!!! Anyhow, I smoke camels and the filters are simply chemical treated cotton. It doesn't take ten years to biodegrade. I smoke with my daughters in the car or not. Good God someone call social services!!!!! Now I do recognize the possibility of harm (POSSIBILITY). I am going to continue smoking until it is finally made illegal, then I will still smoke because I can grow and roll my own. Also roadside litter here in Ga is picked up by inmates on a work program. Further justifying the satisfaction I feel cruising along in my prius tossing butts out of the window.

Oh just stop trying to justify littering, okay? This isn't all about you and this world that belongs to everyone should not be your big trashcan. We all share the common areas of it - how can you say it's okay for you to litter it? It doesn't matter how much you justify it with your ridiculous idea that it is just a tiny butt or that it's biodegradable or whatever else you come up with. You are littering. Straight up - littering. Dance around it all you like, but you are littering.

I'm a nonsmoker, but I honestly don't have a problem with you smoking - it's your life, do whatever the hell you want with it. You're not doing it in my house or in my car or in the restaurant I'm eating in, so I really don't care. The real issue is about littering. All this other talk about your stupid habit is just muddying up the bottom line - that you are a litterbug. Smoking and littering are separate. When you throw your cigarette out into my world, you involve me and all the rest of the people who share the world. If you were throwing out your gum wrappers every day, it would also bother me. Smoke until your lungs dry up and rot - I really don't give a crap. However, you and all the other litterbugs like you are junking up the world with all your stupid butts...millions of them. That I do care about. It's disgusting, okay? Just quit being a self-centered, self-righteous slob! Don't leave your trash for others to pick up!

Jeez...what the hell's wrong with you?! You should be ashamed of yourself. Instead of justifying your constant littering, why don't you be a good citizen and steward of the earth? You should do your best to take care of YOUR home, OUR home. Get a clue!

Nothing pisses me off faster then a smoker who doesn't give a shit about others.

I had cancer; I am a cancer survivor. Never smoked, but my mother smoked like a chimney. I suspect second hand smoke is partly to blame.

I would say, that if you smoke, at least be considerate of others. Don't liter. And be glad that you haven't got cancer yet.

I got it figured out....you get caught throwing a cigarette out of a car or at all onto the ground, you get slapped with an Attempted Arson Misdemeanor arrest....see how many people will chance it now

Why would anyone think it is ok to litter?...especially when the litter is on fire? We have a number to call in Tennessee if we see someone throwing trash out of a car . They will go by the plates and send the people a letter letting them know they were spotted littering and give them a little lecture. I think the fine starts on the second time they are caught. Every little bit helps.

I can't help thinking back to the military thread. Guess you just can't help aligning yourself to the stereotype huh? Ignorance combined with arrogance is a really bad combination.

Hey I just figured that if ya'll were going to go insane and frothing at the mouth one direction and since I lean toward a slightly different viewpoint, I would try frothing at the mouth in the other direction and see how silly it sounds. On a more serious note, no I am not advocating or trying to defend widespread mass littering. I do my share to keep things as clean as possible. No one seems to have considered that when I am tossing said butts out onto the roadside I am on MY OWN land. Yes cruising along the highways and byways I keep my butts in my car, also in towns. No one here seems to consider much out of the ordinary view. It can take me 15 minutes to drive to one of the barns, that's my own land and if I want to toss a butt out, well I am the one who is going to be tilling it in later. If it burns well, I've got firebreaks and water equipment, and I burn regularly anyway so not that big of deal. The crack I made about prisoners still does apply though as occasionally they do hit the side and county rural routes. I guess that I was correct in thinking that about the only thing most people on here and I share is an odd little hybrid car. Still one can hope.

Fine. I didn't know you only polluted your own land. Please accept my apology. I appreciate that you don't pollute the areas that you and I share. I was only angry at you for littering the rest of the world and trying to justify it (again, didn't realize you only litter at home). If you want to pollute your own property, that is your right. Personally, I don't understand why you would want to, but it doesn't matter what I think because it is your land. Enjoy it. Thanks for not polluting the rest of the world, though. Again, sorry for reading you the riot act (I hate littering). :)

A good rain can carry your litter off your land and onto someone else's.

The chemically treated cotton is the non-degradable cellulose acetate.
