Hi Everyone: We're a day or so away from selecting an '08 Prius (probably a pkg 5 or 6) and have found this site interesting, although I'm not very comfortable navigating around yet ... It doesn't seem very user-friendly ... yet. I'm sure that will change over time with more usage.

There are a lot of terms thrown around in various threads that make very little or no sense to me. Is there someplace where I can begin to get a handle on the vernacular here. Also tips about navigating and for best searching the site would be helpful. I'm looking mostly at how to best manage MPG at this point.

We're going out for an extended car trip around Western US in about a week. We're going from Seattle to Salt Lake City to Phoenix to Dallas to Colorado and then home. We'll be gone a month or so and be putting about 5K on the car.

Do we need to drive differently during a "break in" period, or is that necessary?

    Thanks!

    How's this?

Can't remember exactly what the break-in instructions are, but they're not extensive. They will be in your manual.

    Welcome to PriusChat and Prius-dom!

EDIT (missed this the first time around): For searching, I like the site-specific Google search function.

Avoid high speeds (highway speed is okay), and avoid slamming on the brakes if at all possible. Other than that, there isn't anything special about the break-in period. Some sources will tell you to vary your speed, but the Prius pretty much does that on its own. If you are traveling over the flat lands, you might want to shift the speed around a bit.

It appears that you're deleting the closing
.

and this question is completely off topic, but considering your username and location, do you have anything to do with the group "Heart?"

If you like 1701a, you'll like John's site. You'll like his site anyway as a newbie -- lots of information on the car.

You'll also like Doc Willie's car. Search around for some of his pics. ;)

No, that's not the Heart I'm about (I do love the band, though ...)

Heartmusic is the music I write - jazz, classical, folksy, poppy stuff. Guitar, vocals, keys ... It's a long-time vocation/avocation.

    Thanks for the welcome!
