Hello, I have a quick question. Will any part # 86110-47081 and year MFD screen work in my '05 Prius, regardless of options (Nav, JBL, etc.)?

No. You need the correct part number for your vehicle. I attached TSB EL002-05 that shows that Prius is equipped with two different part numbers, which depends upon having nav or not. This is because nav-equipped MFDs have more buttons along the sides as compared to non-nav MFDs.

OK, thanks for the info, but I got mine working!!!!

Here is a little history of my situation. My screen failed suddenly last week after stopping at the gas station. Started the car, no screen. Well there was screen, but with the 'classic' symptoms of a failure in IEbus communications. I attempted to re-flow the the solder in the pin 58, 60 area as per hobbit's excellent and thorough write up. (hobbit, thank you very much). But this still did not help, no screen. Ok, I decided to tear it back down again, solder more pins- still no screen. One more time, touched up all 60 pins (what a tedious PITA that is) and tweaked the contact pins as per hobbit's write up. Then I put the MFD all back together, plugged it into the car, and presto....still no damn screen!!! At this point I am ready to give up. I came inside and posted the screen question and re-read hobbit's pages. This is when something caught my attention concerning the screen's communication process, specifically the sending of the 'beep' to the radio and then waiting for a response. Something clicked in my head and for shiets and giggles I unplugged my Dice, and yes... I HAVE SCREEN!!! I can't say if my screen actually failed, or the DICE had a glitch, or if it was a combination of the two, but all is well once again in Prius-Land.:)

P.S.- I plugged the Dice unit back in, and both the Dice and the MFD are still working.

Moral of story: if you have any aftermarket electrical junk installed and you get any kind of electrical problem, try unplugging the aftermarket junk before tearing apart the dash :_>

Yeesh, same experience here. I wish I had found this post before I tore apart the MFD looking for microscopic faults in the soldering. After seeing these posts I unplugged the connection at the DICE and symptoms went away. Plugged it back in, and still seems okay. I'll cross my fingers and hope this is the end of the MFD malfunction story for me.

It wasn't too hard for me to reflow the solder joints at pins 58 and 60 when my 2004 MFD failed in the usual way. I posted some details today at another thread on this forum -- look for DeeTrumpet.
