Its new, its blue and it's stalled!

Greetings all! Well I had intended to post a newbie thread, as I got a new 2008 package 5 Prius 2 weeks ago. I have really enjoyed the car and it has been great - except (you knew that was coming, right?) tonight. I took my wife about 3 miles east of here to a restaurant and as I was turning off the main road and into the parking lot at about 10 mph the car stalled. I was able to coast into a spot, but when I try to start it I get the "Hybrid System Failed" warning indicator on the MFP, and all the indicators on the speedometer panel light up. The info graph says the hybrid battery is charged. The lights, horn and radio work. Just no joy on starting it. She has 700 miles on her and the gas tank is full (its only my third tank of gas).
I guess it will be towed into the dealership tomorrow unless they can figure out something else to try - they aren't open today (Sunday). I don't know that anyone here can help, I tried some of those "restarting the computer" tricks, i.e. holding down start, but to no avail. I assume there is some sort of "first night" type electronics problem, and will post what it was when it is repaired - I mainly just wanted to let others know that this could happen and document what the cause was.
Wow, I haven't even got permanent plates on it yet If anyone wants to posit a guess have at it and we'll compare notes when the verdict is in.

 

Thanks for the replies, yes the tank was full. Not just filled either, had driven probably 30 miles on a full tank. I figure it is probably something minor, but I guess we'll see - glad I have the platinum service plan and warranty, but I hate to have to waste the time. Its too bad that the only thing my sister-in-law (who came to pick us up) knows about hybrids now is that mine left me on the side of the road 2 weeks after buying it. She's not even sure if it uses gas or not LOL.

 

Update: Towed into the dealer yesterday (monday) morning. They got it into the garage yesterday afternoon and by this morning have ordered a new inverter. It should arrive tomorrow, so lord willing and the creek don't rise, it should be done either late tomorrow or by Thursday morning - then we'll see if that's really the cause. It makes some sense, since the car had power in the big and little batteries. Without the inverter accessories would work (they did) but motors wouldn't (they didn't). Keeping you updated and my fingers crossed!

 

All righty then, its back and they did replace the inverter. Their service and sympathy was impeccable, to the point that when I came back to return the rental and the service guy and rental guys weren't there they just had me sign for the car and go, not wait for them to return.

Unfortunately that means I didn't get to ask him what codes it threw, but I will see him again soon when I bring the car in for the free 1000 mi oil change. They did say that: a). Inverter failure is very rare on a new Prius; and b). They are glad that it is, because the part costs $5000.

So far it seems back in black, the only difference I noticed was that the radio stations and clock were reset (because they disconnected the batteries I suspect).
