Sorry to break it to you... you can't copyright an idea, only the expression of the idea. That said, you ought to contact Toyota Marketing and pitch it to them!

My first language is Portuguese and my second language is French. I say it's Priuses, Prii sounds ridiculous.

This has to be the most amazing thread in the forums...

And what is even more amazing is that I read every post and was fascinated by them.

That's all from me, maybe. I gotta' smile. Thanks everyone.

That's the whole point. (Well, not so much that it sounds ridiculous, but that it sounds smug.) So I say "Priuses" as the plural when I am trying to stay as far away from smug as possible, I say "Prius" when I want to sound semi-smug, and I say "Prii" when I want to REALLY lay down the smug. I'm extremely unlikely to say "Priora" as I don't think I could handle putting out that level of smug. But one thing I NEVER say (type) is "Prius's". Come on people: it's time to learn what an apostrophe is for.

I'll vote for Prii, as a distinguishing mark. As Bill points out, "Prius" is Toyota's trademark name, which means we can't (shouldn't) refer to any hybrid car as "a prius". I've been on the receiving end of enough calls from Johnson & Johnson (Band-Aid) to know companies are protective of their trademarks. But plural forms, whatever they are, are not trademarked because the singular is. And convention will win out over grammar, unfortunately. Rememebr "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should"? Gframmarians battled to make it "as", to no avail. The masses will win.

And I prefer pride of Prius, but I'm intrigued with "smug of Prius" as well.

well if a plethora is a lot, then maybe Priithora is a lot of Prii?

If you ask the average Japanese person they will say "Ri-us" anyway, so what do they know?:croc:

Esse Prii Quam Videri! More Prius than it seems! :grouphug:

How about: A flock of Prii.

I refer to my car in the singular as Prii.
Haven't used it yet, but my inclination is to pluralize saying Priuses.
"Look at all those Priuses. But I love my Prii the best!"

Far from a language expert but that's my .02

Similar to Prius and moose is the question:

What would you call a collection of chicken?
