So these comments would come from SOUTHERN Manitoba? I'm curious as to why people can not be bothered to spell or punctuate, but 'they're' the 'undesirables? I, too, went to graduate and post-graduate school, served in the military, AND paid for educational opportunities, and managed to raise children in this intolerant self-aggrandizing world. I always understood that Darwinism was based on survival of the fittest.

The comedian Jeff Foxworthy pokes plenty of fun at his accent, especially during a recent Glenn Beck show. When I used to live in Utah, we also made plenty of fun of anybody with that deep drawl. Deal with it

I have no problem answering honest questions from folks who are curious about the Prius. Unfortunately, there are plenty of folks with an agenda, who despite careful research from ORNL and ANL, still insist on spouting outright lies about the Prius

It's not my job to "defend" Toyota or the Prius. But if anybody walks up to my face and they have an attitude, they are going to be hurting. Badly. Although a lot of folks consider me to be a "gentle giant" I'm not afraid to work somebody over if they deserve it

Anybody who mindlessly repeats outright lies about the car, especially from CNW or Rush, deserve at the very least a STFU from me. If they persist, they get to meet my knuckles

I'm not afraid to stand up for myself or what I believe in. Part of the problem we have now with our messed up society is that we have to handle everybody with kid gloves - heaven forbid if I should hurt their feelings. They might suffer emotional trauma and have no legal recourse but to sue me

I don't know how many people honestly believe some of these hybrid myths - I suspect many of these want to believe Dust to Dust and Sudbury, even if they suspect it's a junk science. For those that want to believe hybrid misinformation so they feel better, I have no sympathy with their pain at the pump.

If I were to meet someone filling up telling me "the truth about hybrids" - I'd probably reply: "keep what you have and save money."

An agenda? Wow, you give them a lot more credit than I do. I thought they were just a bunch of morons who didn't know when to STFU.

Here is an image you can link to when you need to tell someone in an online forum to STFU:

You know someone who has replaced a battery in a Prius? I know a lot of people who have Prius and I don't know anyone who has replaced a battery in one. I use 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres across town so how does your car do?

If I have 5 minutes to spare I might ask, "If you have 5 minutes I'll take you for a short ride, only 1 of us knows anything about the Prius."

It is all a left wing liberal conspiracy led by Nancy Peloci to win over American union workers support...or wait, I mean a right wing Christian anti-Muslim conspiracy led by an evangelist preacher...or... well, maybe it was just some dumb-nice person showing his ignorance that started this whole conversation. Yep, I am going with the last one.

I agree the average doo-doo spouting the Prius "facts" probably isn't smart enough to have an "agenda." However, the *source* of the "fact" is a group that *does* have an agenda.

CNW Marketing "Research" is one such obvious source that clearly has an agenda. There are other sources that portray the Prius as being solely responsible for the "moonscape" around Sudbury, Ontario (I guess Toyota figured out time travel and got the bulk of the ore before 1975)

As others have stated, the folks who spout the "facts" perhaps really, really want to believe that the Prius alone is responsible for the sky high fuel prices, the coming food crisis (Where is Malorn to defend the use of ethanol?), housing bubble that burst, etc etc

It's a lot easier to blame a readily identifiable car than to blame incompetent domestic car companies, bumbling governments, insane overuse of credit, and in the end, the individual.

And Utah is the intellectual and moral center of the universe? I lived there for 4 years--everyone dressed the same, drove the same car, went to the same church, shopped at ZCMI, and believes something about salamanders in glasses. Jeff Foxworthy is FROM the south. Stupid doesn't claim the southern US as "home." It's pretty much comfy everywhere.

Arguing with it or getting mad at it just seems to be like getting in a stink-match with a skunk.

I think there is a high correlation of people that want to believe hybrid misinformation and also want to believe that they can install a specially outfitted mason jar under the hood of their SUV and generate HHO to increase their mileage to 50 mpg.

I had a cashier at a repair place say the Prius seemed like a good car, "but hope that you never had to change the battery".

I usually respond to such comments with a comment about the cab that ran for 200k miles on a single battery in Canada, and remark about how the batteries keep getting cheaper (are they down to $2k

We purchased a sticker from Cafe Press "you just got passed by a hybrid", and a 46mpg sticker and put them on our rear bumper....sometimes it really gets them steamed! Since ours is a Classic, the car is not as noticeable as the Gen II, and it seems to bring a little attention to it. I love to race a little in town....knowing I can make it up a few miles down the highway.
